Picked up PQ. Now to decide which side I should play as first: Team Bland (P3) or Team Fun (P4). I'm going with the latter, I think and saving the New Game + for the P3 side where I can just rush through the slog.

too true i picked to start on hard but not 'risky' how bad have i owned myself? i made the mistake of trying eo:u on hard and it was a frustrating trudge till i lowered it to normal, and i just did the first battle and it took like 5 turns to win the battle

Battles get easier once you get to the second floor and unlock sub-personas, because sub-personas give you a pool of bonus hp and sp that get refreshed at the start of each fight. That means you don't have to spend a third of your total sp to get your Boost chain going. That said, one thing I've noticed so far (also playing on Hard) is that enemies ambush you a lot. I seriously got ambushed about 2/3 of the time on the first floor.

Is it a mistake if I go with Risky at the start? I mean, it's the only one that sounds the most like the classic mode in Etrian Odyssey, which is my kind of thing, but I dunno. e: Oh wait, it's just the protag dying. gently caress it, I'm not crazy.

-P3 Portable -Watch The Answer cutscenes on Youtube -P4 Golden -P4 Arena Ultimax (Buy P4A Story DLC) There, you've gotten it all. Play P1 or P2 games if you really want to. PQ as well, but that really has no effect on anything.

If you don't like fighting games, feel free to just watch the cutscenes (by which I of course mean listen to and read along) for Arena/Ultimax online. I dunno that those or The Answer are really necessary though, especially if you're just wanting to play Persona Q.

While P3P is a PSP game and P4G is Vita only, you can still play the PS2 versions if you have a PS3. Persona 3 FES and the original Persona 4 are up on the PS2 Classics section. You'd be missing out on a lot of stuff, but if you're just using them to catch up for PQ you don't really need the girl's story in P3 or the bonus dungeon and s-links in P4.
