So I'm looking into a Mobius and I think I'd like to get the Wide Angle Lens and the Super Cap. I feel stupid.

You want this. It comes with the wide angle already installed.

Right now it's all defaults. I haven't done too much fiddling with the color settings, there's just so many variables. It seems like it's going to be laborious. Change settings, go out and get some footage, come back and check it, repeat.

I got my Mobius, and wow, after owning the G1W for a couple months this thing is very impressive with how small and covert it is. I am waiting on the suction cup mount I ordered to come in, but I'm already trying to figure out how else I could mount it so as to take advantage of its very low profile (again, don't want to go with 3M sticky + velcro, because my windshield is tinted, but there has to be another way). What are your guys' mounting solutions for your Mobiuses?

I'm even considering getting a second one for the back of my car despite planning to just use the G1W I already have, it just feels a lot more solid and has such a smaller footprint. Little disappointed it doesn't come with a power source or mount of its own, but that's not really a problem.

For my windshield, I'm using a mini 0803 with 3M tape, but I'll be going with the suction cup for the Mobius on the windshield. When I move the 0803 to the rear, I'll mount it from a plastic cap that holds in the headliner using 3M tape. If it's going on glass I'd probably use a suction cup or visor mount in your case but for others, 3M tape shouldn't leave any sticky residue you can't get off relatively easy if you don't feel like spending the cash.

I've had a G1W for a few months now. Haven't really caught anything spectacular, but I've had a few close calls:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugguRrag9Mk

This is actually a chronic problem in this turn lane; apparently people think the "No Left Turn" markings in the oncoming lane actually mean "It's OK to turn left here as long as you drive on the wrong side of the road!" :downs:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWLcIkxQS1U

This one was really my fault, for being in the blind spot of a car that I knew was going to be turning right. :saddowns:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJffgEbc9nY

This one was a bit closer than the wide-angle lens makes it look. Would have been closer still if it hadn't been for the Avalanche in the other lane; I was anticipating him pulling out in front of me, so I was already ready to hit the brakes.

And one funny one, because I love it when cops do poo poo that they would (rightfully) ticket anyone else for in a heartbeat:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioEKlFSHWD0

Usually I'm willing to give 'em the benefit of the doubt; after all, sometimes they might legitimately be on their way to an urgent call that isn't technically an emergency. This one was just rushing to an office building a little ways down the street to direct traffic for a meeting with some Atlanta Braves bigwigs or something, though (that corner with the heavy machinery is where their new stadium is being built).

Oh, I have no doubt of that; by "blind spot" I really mean "alongside their car at all." As I'm sure you know, 95% of the people who are in the left lane at that curve are going to turn right at the next light no matter how many other cars they have to drive through to get over. Usually I know better than to be in their way at that point, though. :v:

Not a state certified EMT (or state certified in anything); I'm certified by the American Heart Association for first aid, CPR, AED, and infant CPR. I could never handle being an EMT. I've previously been certified Red Cross as well. Blood doesn't bother me in the slightest, but other bodily fluids do; otherwise I'd actually be an EMT (even if just an EMT-B).

Basically I'm certified by a well-recognized non-profit to render basic first aid (including assisting to load someone onto a back board), perform CPR on anyone (infant through elderly), and use an AED. So I'm not actually required to stop, since it's not a state certification.

But I'm human, and have this thing called a "heart", and have first aid/CPR/AED knowledge - so I'm going to stop. My certifications are expired, but it's no big deal to renew them (the only thing that's changed is CPR techniques), and I'd likely be protected by good samaritan laws if I tried to help someone that later passed.

Can I run thinner wires of simply remove the external black part of the cable and leave only the two wires ?

Raw video is easy to read plates day and night time at decent range. The gps speed and map overlay is good too should you need it.

From my experiences and an abridgement from DashCamTalk and Techmoan's videos:

If it's a gift the 801/803 seems to be pretty good in not-too-hot climates, and the built-in screen will help with fine-tuning the recording position. It's small like the Mobius, which helps detract attention to it and makes mounting easier.

The G1WH can be made better by flashing its firmware with other manufacturers'. I've used the Shadow GT300W firmware and it hasn't crashed or deleted any recordings on me (unlike the stock firmware). It's the biggest of the bunch, which can make it difficult to hide or mount near the rear-view mirror. (Going to be putting mine on the rear deck once the 803 arrives.)

The Mobius is top-tier for discreetness, but without any screen it could be difficult to find the ideal mounting position without having to pull a recording and check. It also seems to fare very well with firmware support.

I think I paid ~$120 USD for mine with the GPS module and a 32GB sd card from amazon. I really like it except that its not easy to move between multiple vehicles unless you guy a second mount/gps unit. I just got my Mobius yesterday and I am pretty impressed with the thing. The settings were a little interesting but the software you use to configure it has little tips that appear when you hover over the option, so that really helped.

Since I've already setup my 0803 on the dash, I'll probably just use the Mobius as a rear-cam until I decide whether it's worth the effort to rerun cables and buy new 3M mounts to move them around. Alternatively, I'll just get another Mobius by then. Too soon to say.

So I picked up an 0803 on a complete whim due to an Amazon.ca 1 day sale, $119 cdn (Prime eligible too) vs $149 which made me take the plunge.

Couple of questions to ask though:

I want to do a hard wire install. Is the "official" ojocam hardwire kit for $20 on Amazon.ca the way to go or are there other ones that are just as good?

Should I update the firmware?

Does the camera have the ability to turn on if someone hits your vehicle in a parking lot (when you are out of your car and off) or is that even a thing?

Christobevii3
Jul 3, 2006
The hard wire kit looks ok, what I got. I haven't installed iet yet but will wire it in with a relay to turn on with the stereo.

Yes update the firmware if old. There are sensor g settings for savings files when hit but you'd have to leave it running all the time which may kill your battery.

I suppose I should figure out if there is a way to 'mark' spots on the recording on the G1W so I could reach over and push a button or something.

Yep. Every. Goddamn. Day. (that I go into town) There is the three-isle-sweep onto the interstate, both ways. Even better, for a short distance on the return, it balloons up to 5 lanes, and back down to 3 within about half a mile. The exit after that one has two merges onto it and one out within, oh... 400 feet or so. It was accident prone BEFORE the 5 lane debacle. Welp..

Real Racing. Real Sport.
Near one year report with my G1W - it still works.

Other than that, there is no battery/power left in it, so it has to run on the car's power (which it was) - however, that makes the basically useless shock sensor even more useless for parking lots.

Otherwise the stock mount failed in summer heat, so I bought a variety of low-profile mounts from China off eBay and modified them to work with the G1W, which many consisted of slimming down the attachment part on the windshield mount.

The next - way down the road project - is to add a rear mount on the 12v system. Lot of wire running for that.
