look, even though there's no confirmations, puerto rico is effectively a state. if anyone tried to doublejoin them to the union, they'd get caught and have to deal with a massive scammer tag. the bill's just been stuck for about a century because someone forgot to include a lobbyist's fee.

Nintendo Kid posted:no, that'd be awful unless you're a republican the proposal is dumb, but it is less politically slanted than you think. california is really really blue, and most of those states would still be heavily democratic. turning 0/2 senate seats into 4/12 does not work out well for republicans thought experiment: what if every two ca congressional districts (38/53 democratic, or 71.7%) were their own state, and sent senators at the same proportion? so instead of 53 republicans and 45+2 democrats, the senate would be 68 republicans and 80+2 democrats, and that's after conservatively taking a seat away from the democrats i really don't even know how you could ever gerrymander california enough to actually make it work out in favor of republicans. even the inland empire isn't that republican. you'd have to make calaveras county its own state or something while leaving the entire bay area together

The plan creates 1 solid blue state, 2 swing states that lean conservative, and 3 solid red states that are basically just farming communities. In all likelihood, this would take 2 Democratic senate seats and turn them into 4 Democratic senate seats + 8 Republican senate seats. Even if the swing states wind up going blue, it's still a losing proposition for Democrats. The entire purpose is to gently caress Democrats. When you're free to draw state boundaries however you want, it's easy as hell to gerrymander the results however you want. QuarkJets fucked around with this message at 10:36 on Dec 4, 2014 |

Ron Paul Atreides posted:I don't even follow what that's about, is it literally just spending USD for 'bitcoin' transactions? Like this isn't just about buying and selling butts with them, they aren't an exchange they are a payment processor right? No, I think I get it: you go to a retailer, they say "you can pay with USD using your regular credit card but I pay 99% fees on that, whereas if you pay using your Coinbase account, I pay no fees, so I'll give you a 1% discount", and you say "wow, a 1% discount, I'll definitely give Coinbase the username and password for my Internet banking to save 1%". I predict the next innovation in the bitcoin economy to be just going to your local convenience store and giving the clerk dollar bills with "I <3 BITCOIN" written on them, this is just as relevant to bitcoin as using Coinbase with USD. crusader_complex posted:how exactly are these guys certain that bitcoin doesnt fund terrorism? I checked the whole blockchain. They're not funding terrorism. They're funding Hitler though.

Q. Are you going to stop being such a jerk on the forums to some people? A. Maybe. It depends. Actually, yes. As a pool operator and an independent individual I have far more latitude and freedom to express my displeasure with some of the more intense stupidity that can be encountered on the internet. As a representative of a company, I am, unfortunately, a bit more constrained from explaining to various people exactly why they are idiots. As such, I will likely be ignoring a lot of the more of the ludicrous posts than I have before. To those of you who enjoyed reading my rants, I am sorry that they will be far fewer and betweener.
