I wouldn't say Alonso (or anyone really) 'likes' understeer, but he won two championships in a car famous for it.

There was an F1 racing article that talked about him pestering his lower formula engineers for an understeering setup and when they finally gave it to him he just started winning races and didn't stop.

I'm unsure how the technical partnerships will work at McLaren next year. Alonso likes oversteer but it ruins the tyres. Button likes a neutral balance but McLaren have only ever given him understeer, or so he complains. I don't know how much data they'll share anyway, but even if they did it wouldn't really help them out much.

They're both gonna be poo poo drivers with poo poo cars with poo poo engines.

It will be interesting to see. I assume they'll be developing around Alonso, but in any case will still put together a poo poo aero package, even if the Honda turns out to be a beast.

McLaren had Newey before and won the constructor championship one (1) time in the span of 8 years.

I assumed the same thing would happen to Nico in 2014 because who cares about F1 unless someone is reduced to tears but instead we got a boring status quo WDC outcome.

I hope this is true, but I just can't picture a McLaren at the front of the grid anymore. All they need to do is find a way to cheat interpret the rules most effectively to get a good start on the season.

This, but actually what will actually happen in the real world as maclaren-honda rebrand themselves for Formula E after 15 consecutive DNFs

You would think going into their 3rd consecutive year of designing their car from scratch McLaren would be pretty good at it.

Good Reminder!

Next round of Formula E is tomorrow, and its not at a stupid time for the majority of us -

Its in Uruguay. Here is a link to the circuit guide,

Thanks for the reminder. It was so long in-between the first and second round, I was expecting the same so I am pleasantly surprised at this unexpected race day. Cheers.

McLaren has become the first Formula 1 team to announce that its 2015 car has passed all the FIA's mandatory crash tests.

The Woking squad, which reunites with Honda for next season, has yet to reveal a launch date for its new design. Pre-season testing begins at Jerez on February 1.

The early confirmation that McLaren has completed the crash tests is in contrast to the team's 2014 car, which did not get through the process until a week before pre-season testing began, having faced a race against time to get approval to take to the track.

In recent years F1 regulations have been tightened to ensure that cars pass crash tests before taking to the track at all, rather than just having to do complete the tests before the opening grand prix.

McLaren finalised its 2015 driver line-up earlier this week when it re-signed Jenson Button and finally announced the return of Fernando Alonso.

I guess a crash test is easy to pass when the car itself was doing about 60mph before it failed.

Well, you have to admit they haven't yet repeated the mistake they made in 2012, of junking the best car on the grid and starting again.
