Watching you sleep.

Butt first, let's
check the feeds.

I stopped watching years ago, knew it got cancelled, had no idea it was picked up by... Yahoo does TV shows? I genuinely had no clue. Do they have a streaming service or something I should download?

I just assumed that its cancellation had brought an end to all the complaining about shows like Big Bang Theory or Modern Family getting better ratings or more nominations.

Wow, Yahoo does TV shows. Learn something new every day.

poo poo, I didn't know Yahoo was still a thing.

Yahoo seems to be doing well. They bought some ad company for 600 million recently. How much could a short season of Community cost?

Well, this season they've turned on the light, replaced all the black actors with white actors and will be filming in more than one location, so.. more than it did on NBC.

I dunno my expectations were so low the show seems decent. I liked the inclusion of the Hashshashin. Although they just throw in random kung fu fights just because.

Well, can you think of a show that would not benefit from the inclusion of kung fu?

Marco Polo also has a sex ninja, and I'm only 2 episodes in.

And the old asian guy teaching him kung fu is a bit blown out of proportion here compared to how it's presented in the show to be honest.

It's very well crafted so far, but the pacing and plot are eh. It's also very clearly a Game of Thrones metoo. Not sure if that's a bad thing or not yet.

I heard it started to improve once it split everyone up and became kind of a zombie anthology character study, is that right or no?

Not really. The last season did a lot more of that, the start of this season reunited everyone then split them into two halves. One of the halves was really really similar to the story in Z Nation and Z Nation did it far better, in TWD it just fizzled into pointlessness as plots in TWD are wont to do.

Yeah it's very well made and lovely to look at but it doesn't really have much of a narrative flow to it, things just happen scene by scene. It's not particularly focused. It also seems very slow moving but not necessarily boring. Probably entertaining enough for me to keep watching.

Yeah, that's my problem so far. I don't want to say "nothing happens" because stuff happens, but, it's so meandering and every time I think they're setting something up it just stalls with few exceptions. Yet it's not boring enough to stop either.

I think this was the exact right time of the year to release this. Nothing else is really on so good enough is good enough?

He made it sound like he has a lot of fun doing it in an interview I read recently, and I'm inclined to think he wouldn't be saying that if it was bullshit.

Doesn't change whether or not the show is bad (I don't mind it, personally), but it'd explain his participation, at least.

The thread was closed less than a day after the episode aired. At least give people a little time to get poo poo out of their system before throwing a temper tantrum and closing the thread. Or, preferably, never close the thread because a discussion topic where you're not allowed discuss anything is boring and pointless (see: the TVIV annual poll thread).

TV doesn't seem to lend itself to critics in the way that other media does. Most critic reviews of new shows are based on a few episodes or even just the pilot, if you had people review a movie based on the first 10 minutes or a game by the first level or an entire album off the first track they'd be rightfully laughed at but with TV reviews it's the norm.

On the other hand, TV shows are meant to be watched episodically, so it's more like reviewing any average comic book.

I want this dumb trend of TV shows turning into 12 hour long movies broken up into pieces to end, my memory doesn't have the capacity to remember this poo poo, and I sure as hell am not taking a month of my life to watch five 12-hour movies, no matter how good they are.

I want more shows like The Flash, that show is dope.

I feel like this is sort of a problem with some prestige dramas at times, but especially the type you might see on Netflix. Can't remember HoC much but Marco Polo especially right now (I'm only 2 episodes in granted) feel like they just cut it up for the sake of, "well, it's on Netflix now, so we can just end episodes because reasons". I find it supremely difficult to know exactly what each episode's story is supposed to be in Marco Polo, because it feels like they just mish-mash a bunch of storylines that need to work toward something, but not only do it at such a slow pace, there's no real thematic or any other tie to them either. Suppose maybe that's why critics aren't taking such a liking to it. I know that's one of the reasons why I am as well.

Now that I think of it, even HoC did it better for the most part, each episode had a story. Occasionally they did a stupid "WHOA" cliffhanger which was pointless and resolved pretty limp-wristedly anyway (and also you could you just queue up the next episode).

OITNB on the other hand pretty much worked like actual episodic TV, so I had no problems with that.

This is somewhat of a problem with Game of Thrones, earlier on especially it was kinda hard to see where all the scenes are going sometimes, but they've gotten better at tying things together. Not sure if that's a byproduct of the show's writers or GRRM though, not having read the books.

A little of both, perhaps. The last two seasons were based on Storm of Sword, which is basically the book in which everything that was set up in Game of Thrones and A Crowning of Kings pays off. The writers of the show are also better about by giving exposition to more recognizable and interesting characters. For instance, the first season had Littlefinger telling rando whores why Ned was being such a gently caress up, whereas the fourth season had Charles Dance and Emma Peel discussing why Tyrion was being such a gently caress up.
