Pretty much.

Difference is Hartstein knows what the gently caress he's talking about.

That helicopter/ambulance thing did seem like a pretty glaring failure when it happened. Could Bianchi's family sue the FIA or something? I remember an interview with Mosley where he said why they ran the 05 Indy GP the way they did and one of the things he mentioned was that they couldn't change the course because they hadn't tested it for safety or something in the new configuration which was in the books as a procedure. And then subsequently if a crash happened a judge or whoever would have asked them, "did you follow your own procedures?"

What ambulance helicopter thing? They couldn't fly him out in a helicopter because there was a monsoon coming. The same reason there were no helicopter shots during the race.

Yeah but did you read the Hartstein thing? There's a rule that says the track has to be 20 minutes away from a hospital by ambulance if the helicopter can't fly, and it took them 40 minutes to get to the hospital.

which is almost certainly a rule created after suzuka was built. what are they going to do, build a new hospital?

Yeah the chopper took off about the same time as he left the track, its just with that kind of head injury the patient could die due to the pressure changes caused by flying.

Well again, as Hartstein said, what they should have done was halt the race if the Helicopters couldn't fly, given that the ambulance couldn't get to the hospital fast enough.

FIA Accident Panel: "All rescue and medical procedures were followed, and their expediency are considered to have contributed significantly to the saving of Bianchi’s life."

But there's also this:

quote:

FIA chief medical officer Jean-Charles Piette: "The main referral hospital, which is Mie General Medical Centre, is 15km from the circuit. The distance by road is supposed to be 25 minutes under normal circumstances.

"When Jules had his accident, the chief medical officer told me at that moment that the helicopter can take off from the circuit but cannot land at the hospital.

"So we decided, as initially thought from the morning, to use a resuscitation ambulance to go to hospital. With a police escort, the duration of the transfer was 32 minutes."
