The way the charts are looking, and the prices have been acting, I would say "Try to be a bit more patient".
The prices are going to pop within the next few days here, and if you must exit, you should see a good opportunity within the next couple of months.
Try to hold out another 90 days, and if you must exit, then so be it. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw bitcoin sitting north of $2500 within the next 90 days.

Price drops make me happy (self.Bitcoin)
submitted 18 hours ago * by Nooku
I now realize the full potential of Bitcoin and I simply can't invest any more of the USDs I've got left.
But there is one exception, and that's when the price drops. If it drops hard enough, it does makes it worthwhile again ( percentually ) to buy some more.
That's why I really like seeing lower prices. It simply means that I can get more pieces of the technology I believe in. So please keep selling, my next buy-target is $200.

Would you really complain about cheap bitcoin?

[–]diglig[S] 7 points 3 hours ago

Of-course not. I never complained when I purchased at $950, then $800, $700, $600, $500, $300. So why would I complain at $200

one possible answer is "a sudden moment of clarity"

so I came to the conclusion that Bitcoin is only as valuable as its network and brand recognition, as any one wanting to get into cryptocurrency could start their own coin if the Bitcoin network proved to not be feasible. so how much would it cost to start your own network (with the same throughput as the current one)? if you take out mining as a network asset (knowing that most mining is just waste heat created to win block rewards and not actual transaction processing bandwidth), the Bitcoin node network consists of 6000 "servers" (many are just PCs that are shut off at night lol) each uploading about ten gigs a day. that's (generously) $5k of bandwidth per day. so if chase wanted to start their own crypto network for some dumb loving reason, it would require virtually no major investment, and even that could be shunted off if nodes collected some sort of transaction fee. so Bitcoin as a network has basically no fundamental value, not that that ever stopped bubbles before, but any competitor wanting to get skin in the coin game could displace the entire Bitcoin network overnight

i dont get your logic here. you could run a network with the same thoroughput as the current one off of a couple 4-year-old desktops but if the block reward ever got valuable then other people would start mining on it and then the same arms race would happen all over again. the point of the block reward is that it incentivizes people to contribute to the security of the network (because the cost to attack it is proportional to the amount of investment in it). so if chase starts chasecoin then other people will start mining chasecoins and depending on how valuable they are you could end up with the same amount of mining being done as with bitcoins

oh poo poo I didn't consider that reducing hashing reduces network security. either way, the barriers to entry are low and financial institutions are in better position to provide financial services.

that part isn't insurmountable, miners/nodes check the validity of a block before they pass it on, you could just have part of that check be "did it come from a whitelist of chase_ip_addresses.txt" which would make it as secure from an attack as the individual servers are and then you're just left with "but why would we bother?"
