I honestly had no idea he was even still alive. I suppose I just assumed he died in the early 1970s, as was the likely scenario for drivers back in those days.

So the FIA released the new requirements in order to get a superlicense. I actually quite like it and it should as a nice boost to a bunch of neglected feeder series.quote:From next year, drivers will need to be at least 18 years old, have passed a test on sporting regulations, and completed at least two years in junior single-seater categories to qualify. And the chart for the license points:

Pablo Bluth posted:It's a mixed reflection of current series value and the FIA desired series value. FR3.5 and GP2 might currently have equal worth in people's eyes, but by giving more points to GP2 you tilt future development in GP2's favour. I'd probably argue Indycar and WEC are the undervalued ones; they're 'destination' series in their own right, not just feeder series. It's interesting to see which current drivers wouldn't be able to enter F1 under the new regulations. Going 3 years before their first F1 race entries, Max Chilton and Marcus Ericsson wouldn't be eligible for a superlicense under the new regulations, along with Daniel Ricciardo, Kimi Raikkonen, and Fernando Alonso. Nice - I support this. Also lol that flagship Formula E counts for nothing, and upon research, only needs an FIA B Licence Sashimi posted:It does feel pretty odd that a WEC or Indycar championship is just barely enough to get an FIA Superlicense, especially with GP2 being worth more. Probably just a result of politics. It's way more than enough - it's 2 4ths and a 3rd in a 3 year period. Also I think it's to filter more talent into GP2 where people will, after a good season in another formula, will switch to GP2 instead of sticking around clubbing seals (i.e. Newbies moving into the series) Human Grand Prix posted:Wait why is it that you get more points for finishing 3rd in Super Formula than 2nd? poopzilla posted:dont gently caress with americas movies Actually, someone earlier in the thread explained/predicted that it was F1 appeasing teams by effectively skirting their own (F1's)engine This works because a loophole means that the engine numbers are set on the number of races scheduled at some point before the season starts (as they kind of have to be) and not on how many end up being run. I imagine that the owners of the Korean track got a few million for their trouble and were entirely complicit all the way along. If they never sold tickets, this would indicate that strongly.

The aim with those new superlicence requirements is pretty clearly to inflate the official FIA championships and devalue any rival series such as FR3.5. Also lol at F2 being top of the list.
