I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. I actually liked that opening for Impact. It was different and interesting like Lucha Underground. Just a slightly different tweak. If that's what this whole "reality show" thing is I'm cool with it at least in theory. And I think it is since this isn't the first time we've heard "Dixie likes reality tv and wants to make TNA more like it." We heard that when ReAction started and we heard it when the 365 Youtube thing started. All it ever seems to mean is more candid backstage footage which I think is a nice change of pace from WWE's magical cameramen (and now Lucha Underground's heavily soap stuff). X Division match was good and the tag match was good until it became a cluster gently caress. Knockout BR was bad but Kong was a pretty awesome surprise and she helps give the division a little much needed credibility. I'm surprised since last I heard she said something like "TNA is my past and I don't want to go backwards." I like EC3 and Spud but a segment built around Borash just isn't going to interest me and in general this feud should probably end since it doesn't help either guy. I think I'd like the Revolution if they weren't such a blatant Wyatt ripoff. There's some solid talent in the group that wasn't doing anything on their own and Storm is doing what I wanted Wyatt to do. Brainwashing existing talents so he's an actual cult leader. So he's more of a Raven knockoff than a Wyatt one. But its just too hard to swallow with it being so close on the heels of the mediocre Wyatt Family storyline. TNA seems to like trying to "do over" badly told WWE stories with potential and even though they improve in ways they just don't have the right to do that. It just plays as cheap. I don't know what's going on with that ending. I've developed an immunity to random heel mega stables in TNA. They're just a fact of life for TNA. And I can kind of see Low Ki and Joe fitting with MVP and King style wise. It has a ROH Rottweilers/WCW Filthy Animals feel to it. And neither guy was really doing anything so fine. But the EY turn just makes no sense. He doesn't fit with that crew, he's got too much bad history for me to accept it, and I have zero desire to see a heel main event EY. EY works fine as the half goofy/half serious face veteran. Leave him there. Only thing I can figure is that since Lashley looked shocked and EY didn't celebrate with MVP's crew that neither of them are officially with MVP/King/Ki/Joe. So Lashley will eventually turn face and EY will just do his own thing feuding with Roode over "resentment" and "betrayed friends" stuff. But neither of those stories interest me. But overall the stories and product didn't hook me any more than than the last year has. I'll probably tune in for another couple of weeks for the novelty of it and to see if they have any more Kong-like surprises, but if there isn't a dramatic improvement in story Impact will go right back to the "DVR and delete" status its had for the last year with RAW and Smackdown.

Man, that show live was such a mess. Between the opening match and the tag match, there was like almost 30 minutes of nothing. And then after the tag match, it was like 15 minutes of nothing. It killed the crowd. It really felt like they didn't know what they were doing. And then to tape like 5 matches AFTER the end of Impact when half the crowd left was just weird. It's also a sad sight to look at their merch stand. They push these brown bag specials which is like $20 for 1 random DVD and 4 shirts (all of ex-TNA people). They must have so much unsold merch from released people.

They've been selling this "brown bags" forever. I remember buying a couple a long time ago and feeling satisfied with what I got aside from getting the same cruddy dvd like three times. But that always seems to be the case with these deals. I have like four Fantastics shoots from the ROH grab bags I bought years ago.

Yeah, I don't know what the hell happened. The crowd was fairly active and wanted to help but there was just so much nothing in between. I would have to think they intended on taping another Impact, but just lost so much time.

Reading the results, it sounds like TNA is back to being TNA again (awful)! Fantastic overbooked gently caress finishes and all. I guess to be fair, WWE has been doing this a bit lately. What a steaming pile of gently caress; you have an opportunity to reboot and you just continue where you left off. I really wanted to watch this until I found out I have to pay more money to watch a lovely Discovery "C" channel. Glad I chose not to. What is with these companies continuing the course even on a sinking ship?

DJExile posted:I missed last night. Did they honestly open up with backstage brawling that turned into There was a (pretty nicely-produced, IMO) pretape of all the wrestlers getting on a bus and coming to the arena, and there was a showdown, started by Roode/Lashley in the parking lot that turned into a brawl. That spilled into the arena and went on seemingly forever, including the crowd brawls among the empty seats in the balcony, and was shot in such a way that there was no chance of following any of the action before they cut to something else. Then Kurt Angle showed up and stopped the brawl and booked himself into a street fight with MVP (there was so much talking to set this up that the crowd chanted 'SHUT THE gently caress UP' which was censored on the broadcast). The street fight had Angle and MVP in hilarious dadjeans that looked like something R-Truth would wear and despite being a street fight, had a lot of wrestling holds in it.

I am morbidly curious to see tonight's tapings because of how much of a train wreck TNA is, but the cheapest tickets on sale ($40) are a bit more than I'd like to pay. If I show up at the Manhattan Center around bell time, what are the chances they'd give me a discount on whatever's left unsold?

Hell maybe they'll do another big brawl and you could sneak in at that point. Wear some really big jeans and tell security you're a surprise new signing from WWE.

I tried to watch this poo poo last night and it was awful. Between boring matches, more WCW logic, and the crowd chilling in the abyss.... who cares. Then I turned it over to Lucha Underground and caught their 20 person battle royale for the championship. I was pleasantly reminded of how good wrestling can be.

SamuraiFoochs posted:Kong going back to TNA saddens me I wouldn't assume that last night was a long-term thing and she's signed a contract or anything. More likely they just wanted to pack some 'surprises' on the show and offered her a deal to do these three nights of tapings and wrap it up. They did that last time they were in NYC with Snitsky, Big Zeke, and some ECW talent.

Don't forget that that seating chart doesn't make any distinction between seats that were sold and seats they kept vacant for production reasons, so you might find there's more than that if you walk up since they may release more when they get their cameras and junk set up.
