That would be Congressman Joe Barton.

In a 2009 hearing, Barton implied that wind is a "finite resource" and that harnessing it would "slow the winds down" which would "cause the temperature to go up."

Well yeah. You absorb the wind energy and convert it, you've removed it from the atmosphere. That energy won't be available to blow branches around on trees or the top hat off a fancy man. Thus, temperatures rise.

Yep, thought this was the common line of thought.

It is finite after all.

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. Who will wipe this blood off us? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we need to invent?

This has happened three times in the three years I've worked at a newspaper. One, we called a guy a "dedicated pubic servant." The other, a third-party candidate for governor wanted to "blow up the pubic school system and start again." Headlines written by one guy and proofed three times. The brain is cool in how it parses what you meant to write/read what was meant to have been written.

I'm pretty sure my old paper once printed a cutline that used the phrase "filling the panties" on a picture about food pantries needing donations. Wasn't on a page of mine, thankfully.

We also used the headline "HE BEAT IT" when Michael Jackson was acquitted, and no one who was working that day thought there was a double entendre in it. It happened that all 3-4 of us under-30 copy editors had that day off. We explained it to the rest of the desk - and the editor, and the city editor - when we came to work the next day.

It's an old story: http://www.snopes.com/college/risque/daughter.asp

The picture is of The Mirror, a British tabloid reporting a story from Zimbabwe, so probably take it with a grain of salt.

I did a bad thing once. A water main broke on Magrill Street, and I gave the photo an alliterative filename. Just a cute little silly thing that only we in the office would see.

And then the fuckin' copy desk used it as the hed.

"Moist" is one of those words you just don't use in a newspaper. It's not my fault, the desk should have known better.
