The stupidest part of that commercial is how the "badass" guy owns and drives a truck in the city.

I just saw a Jeep commercial where some woman driving one in a city runs into a detour that puts her down a fake road that's covered in snow and rocks and stuff and yay her Jeep lets her change modes and get through it!

But I think the commercial makes the argument AGAINST its product: "Jeep: You don't loving need this if you just drive around on normal roads."

The vast majority of SUV and truck commercials have them going around on dirt roads though, it's not a new concept.

I can't even express my rage for that commercial. They manage to make takeout rotisserie chicken look and sound like the grossest thing in the world. Seriously, the sound effect that opens the ad. :gonk:

It's like in The 'Burbs when the entire neighborhood first meets the Klopeks in their house, and Hans gives Tom Hanks a pretzel and sardines. Whoever the foley artist was that made sardines sound so :barf: disgusting is a genius, even though sardines are loving awesome. First thing I think of whenever "disgusting exaggerated sound effects" get mentioned.

Also, not only what you said, but the rotisserie chicken in the commercial is purposely undercooked raw to look sickly and pale instead of piping hot and crispy-skinned. drat... now I really want some rotisserie chicken:henget:

If a family is eating rotisserie chicken for what seems like 5-6 times a week for months, the last thing they want is more chicken, no matter what franchise makes it, or how it is prepared.

So this is radio, but there's this series of Progressive commercials with Flo singing dumb piano songs, and it's been on forever, and it's awful, but that's whatever. What gets to me is this one that includes the line "then someone told me about a basketball strike, that sounds bad but I'm not quite sure." It's literally about the 2011 basketball lockout, and it's been annoying me for the last 4 years because it wasn't even a fuckin' strike

So I thought this was gonna be for like make your own chicken at home sometime! But no, how naive of me. It was a commercial for.....wait for it......KFC!

Yes, KFC is trying to guilt you out of buying those delicious rotisserie chickens from the grocery store and instead buy a disgusting bucket of fried chicken from them.

Glad i'm not the only one annoyed by this commercial. The laziness is the thing that bothers me the most, by which i mean it doesn't even really say anything about KFC and the product they are trying to sell. Both the "bad" product and the "solution" product could be anything and the commercial wouldn't need to change at all to convey the same exact message.

Dad pulls out bucket of KFC chicken and slams it onto table, about to put pieces of chicken onto various plates
Kid says "KFC again?!?"
Dad looks around to see the kid with a KFC bucket robot costume, etc with the rest of the stupid things showing buckets everywhere
Dad resolves to buy rotisserie chicken from the grocery store next time.

Their ad campaign(s) this year are driving me away. Especially the ones where they say nine (or ninety) over and over and over. So incredibly irritating. It's actually motivating me to even contact them and tell them that their ad campaign drove me away from their service.

I love it when commercials use songs that are totally against what they're trying to sell or provide. Hell, the song's title is a shortening of "For the love of money is the root of all Evil."

I enjoyed AT&T's commercial with the two engineer dudes strutting into their headquarters with Turn Down for What playing, along with the lyrics being audible. I haven't seen in it a while but I enjoyed the notion that some corporate schmucks didn't understand that the "fire up the loud/another round of shots" was about smoking jazz cigarettes and imbibing the devil's juice.

This thread has had several episodes of "That song is the opposite of what this commercial/product is about"
Either the Ad wizards are hoping no one in their target demographic notices, or they just don't care.

Example: Bruno Mars song "I see your face, I would not change a thing, you're amazing just the way you are" - to sell make-up.
Because you are not amazing just the way you are, you need our make-up.
Maybe they think the song is catchy/pop enough that people wont make the connection consciously.

Other examples like "16 Tons" (GE clean coal) and CCR's "Fortunate Son" (Only use 1st two lines, ignore the chorus in any commercial trying to be "patriotic") are just too obvious.

There are so many more. It's funny at first, then annoying.

They should go the other way, and use songs that are uncomfortably appropriate. Like "16 Tons" used by some ambulance chaser lawyer outfit that specializes in Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma. Iggy Pop and The Stooges' "Lust for Life" used by some detox resort, instead of a cruise ship line. "Fortunate Son" used by a veteran's benefit organization, showing soldiers undergoing physical therapy with artificial limbs, and caskets with flags draped over them.

A personal favorite of mine in a similar vein is from about a year ago was a Walmart commercial about keeping jobs in America and trying to be as patriotic and American as a commercial can be without having the flag waving in every shot :911:. It was pretty generic, showing people working in places that generally didn't look like a Walmart (I think like a steel mill was one or some poo poo like that). The funny thing about this Go Walmart, Go America commercial was the song playing over the whole thing was Working Man by noted Canadian band Rush. It's not like the lyrics were the exact opposite of whatever crap they were saying, but it always struck me as kind of ironic, and I suspect I wasn't the only one, cause within a few weeks, they had a new version of the ad without Working Man (I don't remember what they replaced it with, but I assume it was something American, or not notably otherwise :canada:).

Poptart commercials are getting pretty dark. Like one I just saw where a jar of Peanut Butter and a jar of Jelly were celebrating the birth of their child (in poptart form) in a hospital nursery and then a nurse shows up and declares that she's going to eat the baby. Cue everybody screaming and then you see the nurse with the baby poptart with a bite taken out of it.

I was watching late night Comedy Central and one of those ads for phone sex lines came on. They're always skeevy, as is the nature of the product, but this one went above and beyond. The line is called "We Are 18", and it's just... creepy. Every time the blonde model says "we are eighteen" I get this subtext "really, we are! We're legal! This isn't creepy at all!" It was very off-putting.

My favorite part is people complained, and then they stopped using it, and then it came out on DVD again or something in the last few years because Disney is weird like that and the commercials had the song back.

That was probably due do licensing/copyright usage. They already had the rights to the first song, and to be able to use the second song on the DVD would mean that they would have to acquire an additional license, which costs money.

No, the song isn't actually in the movie, it was only in the commercial for it. They brought back the same commercial people got mad about and all they changed was "now in the theaters" to "now on DVD".

I have trouble sleeping so I watch tons of late night Comedy Central. These ads, along with local ambulance chasers, debt consolidators, and dick pills, are the driving force past 12:30 and they're all as unsettling and terrible as you said.

WeAre18 isn't even the worst. There's a new one out, I can't remember the name but I'm sure I'll see it tonight, that's even more awful. The "model" (undoubtedly an amateur porn actress) specifically talks about how hard it is for her to get laid because older men think she's too young and immature. The whole time she's writhing around on the bed in lingerie I imagine the director saying stuff like "good good... twist back around... now don't actually suck your thumb, just do everything close to it... curl your feet more... make your voice scratchier... no no, even scratchier, you should be croaking out every line like a sexy sexy frog."
