Cygni posted:I feel like people don't care as much about Ford/Chevy/Dodge anymore anyway. Even rednecks have a softer edge now that they all bought Tundras. While this is probably somewhat true I've experienced the crazies first hand that feel genuinely offended when someone changes brands. I've worked at Bigfoot on and off the last 11 years. In that time I was there when Ford pulled out as top sponsor (back in 06 if I remember right). It was a difficult time. Funding was hard to find. Appraisers came out to see what the company would worth to several investors if the operation went belly up. Really scary times where no one knew if/when paychecks would stop. Summit Racing and Firestone came through at the 11th hour. Fast forward to 2010 and Firestone struck a deal with MLB and wanted to feature Bigfoot at the MLB All-Star game. Since chevy was the official sponsor of MLB, they said they'd love us there if we put on a Chevy body. Firestone requested we do it, so we did it. Holy cow the shitstorm that ensued. I got to answer a bunch of nasty emails and talk to customers who did everything but spit on me. When I explained that Ford said their demographic wasn't important to them (they told us as much in even cruder terms) and that Firestone kept food on our plates (and they requested us to run the Chevy stuff as a courtesy to them), most seemed to begrudgingly understand. Some still hooted and hollered. Whatever. It would've been great to keep the Ford gravy train rolling but they wanted out so what are you gonna do? Just say "well, that's that, lets go out of business"? I'd imagine things were pretty scary at JFR with two major sponsors pulling out. Good for them for finding funding. Yeah, drivers and teams are one thing, but people that think fans have given up brand loyalty are delusional. Just glance at racing video comments on YouTube once in awhile.

Yeah, sorry for long winded post...seeing the comments section of the john force/chevy article brought back some memories. It's funny seeing people call him an idiot (or worse) for changing brands. JOHN FORCE WHY U CHANGE TO GUVERMINT MOTORS FORD FAN 4 LIFE HERE I'M NO LONGER A FAN The fact that the NHRA has been bleeding sponsorship dollars makes it even more impressive. edit - I'm not trying to say that being a hardcore brand fan is wrong or anything. It's just the excessive loons who are brand warriors beyond reason that drive me nuts. ColonelJohnMatrix fucked around with this message at 02:43 on Jan 20, 2015 |

In Funny Car that type of thinking always had me perplexed anyway, because every loving car uses a variation of Chrysler Hemi pioneered by Ed Donovan and perfected by Keith Black. poo poo, even the later versions of Bigfoot used those types of engines, didn't they? Or were you guys still using the Ford poo poo? Those are alky motors so maybe you were.

That breaks the first rule of keeping your sanity, which is to never read Internet comments ever. (If you're wondering, yes, that's the second and third rules too). But it's another case of people wanting to join tribes for life but not understanding how close-knit everything actually is behind the scenes. And yeah I agree, I'm sure the photos were timed as such to leak out like this. Nothing comes out of the Ring without corporate approval, and while the Chevy Indy follies at COTA were funny they're the exception and not the rule. Notice how nothing leaked out when they were testing in Arizona? Yeah. Also I have a sneaking suspicion there were promo stuff being done with the car at COTA too, but that's probably my brain adding a livery where it doesn't exist.

Exciting but I'm afraid it'll end up being one of those channels that's on a tier with a bunch of other stuff I have no interest in and would be another $15 a month. Plus, doesn't Fox or NBC have at least some distribution rights to those same series in the US?

WEC is with Fox, Blancpain is with CBS, ummm that's the 2 main series looking at what they show in Europe that would conflict with channels here. Everything else is free game I believe which with the amount of racing they have, I'd be thrilled.

Ahaha watching the free practice/qualifying for Round 4 of Formula E in Buenos Aires is surprising, as the drivers really have to struggle to control the extra 67 horsepower they have in qualifying trim. Lots of sliding, skidding tires and locking of wheels trying to keep the cars under control. (In race trim the Formula E cars generate 201BHP, but during qualifying and practice sessions the drivers can choose to drive at either 150kW/201BHP or 200kW/268BHP). They drive completely differently with the extra power, and it is great to watch.

For people who want to watch BTCC, iirc the ITV website isnt geoblocked as i'm pretty sure some of the American goons were able to watch champions league coverage on it. You may be able to watch the whole package live. Well if this link works. https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/itv4

So is there a legal way to watch WRC this weekend? I couldn't find it on my tv listings, but maybe I'm just blind. EDIT: In the United States, sorry for not specifying earlier. Solkanar512 fucked around with this message at 16:30 on Jan 21, 2015 |

It's on MavTV, with a 1 hour Live broadcast on Thursday, and two more on Sunday. If youre wondering if you get MavTV, no, you probably don't. Its not even an option on Comcast for me. Which is a shame because its basically what Speed used to be. Like today, they are playing nothing but obscure motorcycle racing (sidecars!) all day.
