Samoa Joe is the only modern day wrestler of note.

Roman's family is goddamn extensive

Generation 1: The Wild Samoans (Sika & Afa)

Generation 2: Sika's kids include Manu (half of the Headshrinkers), Manu, and Lloyd (who worked in ECW as LA Smooth). Afa's kids are Rosey and Roman Reigns. There's also the 3 sons of Solofa Fatu who married one of Sika & Afa's sisters. Solofa's sons are Solofa Jr. (Rikishi), Umaga, and the Tonga Kid. Sika & Afa are also the uncles of Yokozuna.

Generation 3: The Usos (sons of Rikishi)

I love this document so much.

quote:

446. Chris Benoit invented the triple German suplex back in the 80s; Steve Strong was the Trans-Canadian Heavyweight Champion, but was a real dick about it backstage, so one day before a match with Benoit, Beef Wellington jacked off all over the back of the belt before he put it on. Once the match began, Strong's belly was so sticky that Benoit couldn't get his arms off of it until after the third suplex.

I think the full story was that Bill Alfonso, Sandman, 2 Cold Scorpio, and Tod Gordon hung out together and all stayed in this notorious Holiday Inn in Philly for years. Sandman hid coke and pills all over the hotel so they'd always have a party. Tod Gordon found a website where you could hire, uh, "submissive escorts" in Philadelphia and they'd take turns with one they'd always hire. Scorpio loved to smack her with his famously long cock. Tod Gordon liked to tell her to sit in the middle of his room gagged and blindfolded, pour a ring of baby powder around her and tell her not to move or else, then go do an ECW show, and she never moved. They kept her around for about a year until Alfonso fell in love with her and invited her to move in with him. I've heard it on a bunch of ECW guy shoots so I'm afraid that actually happened. :stare:

It weirds me out that Roman Reigns is from a generation higher than the Usos because Roman's dad is Rikishi's uncle. One of my mom's cousins is younger than me and I've always felt odd about that, like it's some kind of time anomaly.

On a scale of 1-10, how full of poo poo is Heyman on the recent documentary WWE made about him, regarding his own finances and the financial relationship between ECW and WWE? (He claims he never took any money from WWE until he began doing Raw, and even at a company level, WWE only paid $1000 a week to ECW for Scorpio) I assume the stuff about Paul losing a ton of money himself is probably true.

Gun to my head, probably around 4. Heyman has no qualms about showing rear end and the ECW financial problems are well-documented. We'll probably never know how much he took from WWE but I've little doubt it was enough to keep the lights on because Vince loving loved the "competition" (aka buying ECW's biggest stars when it was convenient)

That's pretty much true. He's told a bunch of BS about ECW's death recently, but WWE wasn't paying him all that much. They did give him a loan near the end but that is just because they wanted first dibs on buying it in bankruptcy. If he says anything about the cable companies owing him millions or how he didn't really owe that much at the end he's full of poo poo. (He actually owed the cable companies more than they owed him. Way more.)

Gaz-L
Jan 28, 2009
He told some bullshit sounding story about the cable companies refusing to give him the tons of money he was due unless they did another PPV, which I'm guessing was "Um, yeah, you owe us money, so do another show and we'll keep all the money from it to pay off the arrears".

Even accounting for Paul's usual act, that doc's really good, though. There's a great bit where he tells the interviewer/camera crew that they can ask him about leaving WCW, but they can't actually put anything he'd say into the film because of the lawsuit.

House of Glory in NYC is a good example of this. They use Ricochet regularly and have lots of faded indie stars like The Amazing Red hanging around (he's one of the owners). This is balanced with wrestling school student matches, semi-established indie guys goofing around, and ex-WWE guys who show up but don't bother to wrestle. The shows are a fun time and Ricochet had a match against a student named Mr. Smiley a few months ago that legitimately blew me away.

So yeah, nice mix of good stuff, bad stuff, and confusing stuff.

ECW had Jake the Snake for a while in the late 90s. One day, he and New Jack were walking down a hallway in the Arena talking. Paul Heyman came walking the other way and saw him and Jake together. He stopped in his tracks, said "oh God", turned around, and walked away. (New Jack claims he never provided Jake with drugs.)

There's some relatively new fed in Arizona that put on a pretty stacked card by mid-level indie standards a few days ago. Had guys like Chris Hero, Brian Cage, ACH, Tommaso Ciampa, the ex-Drew MacIntyre, etc. I remember seeing Hero talk on Twitter how talented the locker room was for a newer indie.

This has probably been asked before but there was nothing in the OP about it. Why did Wrestlemania XIX do such a lovely buyrate? That card had 4 legitimate main event matches and was stacked with star power. Was wrestling seriously in that big of a slump in '03 or was it just a weird anomaly that hasn't been explained to this day? It's a shame it did so badly because it's one of my favourite PPV's ever.
