I quite liked that the TDU had decent highlights on youtube. The bigger tours could learn from that.

Just couldn't be arsed. By the way, speaking of new threads, anyone hear from Mr.Nice recently? He should probably get to make this season's thread(s) too unless he doesn't want to, but he hasn't posted since August, so if he's lying dead in a French ditch somewhere it's a moot point anyway.

I hadn't seen Jensie's splits til now, and man does he live up to the "SHUT UP LEG" reputation. No other hour record has had that kind of acceleration in the back half.

drat that's how you do a time trial. I usually do the Bobridge version.

He's just much more experienced. He knew what pace to go to beat it, and had enough in the tank to finish stronger. The latest 2, while quicker than him have all gone way too quick and died at the end. I'd be really interested in what Tony Martin, Cancellara and Wiggins will do.

Wiggins will probably do a negative split style like Jens. Brändle went comfortably further than Jens when you take into account the disadvantage he overcame on the shorter Aigle track. The record is ripe for the picking and Bobridge missed a trick here. Also the hour record is really boring without a serious TTer attempting it.

I disagree, I enjoyed Jens' attempt. There's a lot to like about him, and I like TT bikes. That said, I'm interested to see Wiggo and the Panzerwagon take a shot at it.

Pocket posted:Also the hour record is really boring without a serious TTer attempting it. The fact that Bobridge failed it instead of eeking one over Brandle makes it more interesting than less, in that it builds up the aura of the modern record a tiny bit more while acknowledging people want to go after it.

The feed I got had no info graphics. Voigt was awesome and Brämble was cool. Bobridge is where I started to feel watching a dude do laps isn't all that interesting to me. Defo got time for any of the top TTer attempts though.

I 'watched' them all but in reality just had them on in the background until the last 15 minutes or so while I was working. I know Dowsett has put his record attempt back after his collar bone break, but has Wiggins or Martin set a firm date yet?

Watching the Cadel Great Ocean Race. Within 15 minutes I've seen: A guy in the break with a blonde curley mullet miss two bottles in the feed zone. A guy in the break crash taking a bottle from the car and abandon. A guy taking a piss rolling by an old lady in her driveway. A gaggle of dirt bikes doing wheelies and escorting the group for a bit. Good fun

Interesting race to watch, anyway, a few world teams mixing with locals (which are usually used to limited traffic control). I'm not sure this is the exact same route as the Worlds a few years back but the final circuit has an interesting profile.

That one lane bridge is a bit but generally I liked the course. I think the intent was to make the parcours resemble a good classic; there's a bit of debate about whether to push to make it a World Tour event (it's currently UCI 1.1) but the niche it's in isn't a bad one, you'll get a few World teams showing up for it since it sits neatly between the TDU and the Herald-Sun Tour but it also gives a good opportunity for continental and NRS teams to get some time in the spotlight as well. A broader issue is whether the Australian schedule is too early in the year for the major teams. The TDU is when it is because it's usually the last week of the Australian school holidays, which makes things a bit easier for travelling fans and traffic arrangements, but usually it's stupidly loving hot here in January (this year has been fairly unusual in that it wasn't so), so there's a bit of a dilemma about weighing up about moving things later so it's closer to the European spring classics. I think theres a lot of space in the calender for difficult but not overly long one day races. I love that things like Paris Roubaix is so difficult because its such a long race and its a competition not just between each other, but who can push through the pain, but I do think shorter ones are ripe for far more attacking rides.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/vinokourov-questions-bmc-and-team-skys-absence-from-mpcc I dont know Vino, maybe because the MPCC has done gently caress all to stop your team being up to their eyeballs? On a serious note he does have a point, but he really, really shouldnt be the one questioning other teams right now.
