Hey thread I started watching F1 this last year and it is hilarious. My Dad used to watch it when I was a kid so I figured I'd give it a shot, and it's just as dull as it used to be, but now I'm old enough to fall asleep in the middle of the race, which makes it a little more bearable. Here is what an uninitiated dweeb makes of the various drivers and cars:

Mercedes - shiny, fast, boring.
-Hamilton: I laughed every time somebody said "Hammer Time."
-Rosberg: He looks like the dude from the Zelda games, I liked him early in the season but he seemed to not be the real deal in the long run.

Red Bull - I had no idea they sold enough energy drinks to afford all this...
-Vettel: Everybody said he was a winner and all that but he seemed more like a whiny underwhelming goober.
-Ricciardo: How can you not like this guy? My wife agrees he is the most likable.

Ferrari - My little brother says if you paint a car red it will go faster, but he is wrong.
-Alonso: Sex machine. Should've won more, he was outdriving his sister car all season.
-Raikkonen: What a waste...

Williams - Best looking car with the ugliest drivers.
-Massa: Seemed nice enough, despite sucking out loud for half the season
-Bottas: Name sounds like Butt-rear end, drives like a badass. cool driver.

McLaren - Didn't this team used to be good or something?
-Button: Britishest named person ever, seems like a good enough driver and dude.
-Magnussen: Totally unmemorable.

Force India - No opinion formed
-Hulkenberg: Cool name, seemed to have promise earlier on, but then nothing happened.
-Perez: How can you keep track of all these guys?

Lotus - lol
-Maldonado: Obviously the best driver.
-Grosjean: I got nothing.

Toro Rosso - These guys are like junior varsity Red Bull team right?
-Vergne: seemed like a dece driver.
-Kvyat: Looks like my cousin when he was 14.

Sauber - Seriously who are these guys?
-Gutierrez & Sutil: Can't remember one thing about them. Had to look up their names.

Marussia - What is the point?
-Chilton: Good hair, I guess.
-Bianchi: Well at least I remember him.

Caterham - Green!
-Kobayashi: It's funny hearing all the british announcers say "Kamooey."
-Ericsson: Nothing.

No, it wasn't quite like that (unless you believe the nut-jobs on reddit)

"In order to grant permission to Marussia, unanimity was required. Force India was the first to vote, and as soon as the team responded with a ‘No’ in effect it didn’t matter what anyone else had to say. It’s understood that others also expressed opposition, as would other teams not represented in the meeting, such as Sauber and Lotus, who would have had a vote had the matter proceeded to the F1 Commission. Apparently the discussion on the subject was relatively brief."

From here. Posted earlier.

I just wanted a chance to say something bad about him. Force India sucks.

gently caress Caterham and Marussia they both knew the books would never balance and decided to run until the creditors caught up with them. When they went under they hosed over alot of smaller suppliers that will never get their money back.

Yea, but the problem here is that those teams are pretty much already bankrupt anyway, regardless of the other teams entering or not. Force India is probably not going to show up to the second test and are on their way to HRT build-your-car-in-FP1-in-Melbourne status. Remember that Force India, Marussia and Caterham have done the same amount of mileage in testing so far this year, but one of those teams gets to make life immeasurably difficult for the other two when there's a good chance they're just going to end up in the same boat.

Also, having a go at Caterham and Marussia for outrunning creditors to defend Force India's no vote is a bit ironic given VM's track record:

Kingfisher Woes

Meanwhile, liquor baron Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Airlines is in fresh trouble as its pilots have called for a strike to protest against the non-payment of salaries in the last five months. The cash-strapped airline is near bankruptcy and has defaulted on payments to its vendors, lenders and the tax department, in addition to the non-payment of salaries to the employees.

I get that they're well within their rights to say no, but I will laugh so loving hard when Force India collapses.
