Iceland is producing some of the best black metal in the world right now: https://misthyrming.bandcamp.com/album/s-ngvar-elds-og-rei-u

Hello? Charlemagne?!
Fallen Empire's awesome. I wish he'd start doing distro again because he was a great and super reliable way to get some pretty obscure poo poo in the U.S.

Speaking of which, the new Axis of Light rips: http://axisoflight.co.uk/album/lappel-du-vide-2

also i'll vouch for early underoath not being bad, but it doesnt fit in this thread

Deafheaven is really good and they absolutely slew the crowd when I saw them live in Dallas, lead singer had this whole "evil orchestra conductor" persona going on and the crowd ate that poo poo up. But I will never, for the life of me, understand why their newest album is touted as "black metal". It's metalgaze with blackened vocals, that's it.

Because music critics that give the time of day to 1-3 metal albums per year don't know their subgenres.

That guitar tone is pretty bad, the vocals are really lame and you can wake me up when they play a good riff.

I was pretty into it right when it came out. Thousand-fold death is a killer track. Some of the slower songs that don't really go anywhere I'm not a big fan of, but overall it's pretty good Mortuus-era Marduk.

I can tolerate pagan metal and spinal tap satanism but their victorian schtick is just too much.

Cross posting from the metal thread:

I'm wondering if any goons are interested in helping me out with something.

As some of you know, I run the site MetalTours.US and I'm looking for contributors who can act as local reps to keep shows and venues in their area accurate and up to date. I have a full location search on the site, but it's only as accurate as the event venue descriptions are. Most tour announcements only give the venue name and city, and are commonly innacurate (wrong city, venue name spelled wrong, etc). When I import them into the database on my website, the google map api has a hard time finding some of them. I'm probably at 60-70% accuracy now, but it's a huge pain in the rear end. This leads me to going to each individual venue and confirming the address is correct (I have over 700 venues already). Also, I'm just adding tours and don't get a lot of the smaller events (one-off shows, smaller fests, whatever) but I want to get as many events as I can on there.

Anyways, if any of you goons are interested, edit: you can register here http://metaltours.us/contribute/

Occult 45 is awesome. For anyone in the mid-Atlantic region, they're playing a show in Baltimore with Krieg and Artificial Brain that is going to be amazing: https://www.facebook.com/events/1605306963026021/
