Helicon One posted:Anderson's suggestion there is pretty dumb but it's also an almost carbon copy of how GP2 currently works. GP2 doesn't work. It's supposed to be an F1 feeder series, so its job is to prepare drivers for F1, right? But no driver who has graduated from GP2 has really looked ready for F1 since Sergio Perez, four years ago. Romain Grosjean very obviously had to learn how to race in F1, since he'd not done so in GP2. GP2 is a playground for rich drivers with lots of backing, who will go on to be pay drivers in F1. Drivers with talent tend to race in cheaper series, or get promoted directly from F3/GP3.

Mehri will likely get a seat next year, and Jaafar will likely be on the grid sometime soon as well. Can't really pinpoint anyone in GP2, but I admittedly don't follow it as much. There are just too many seeder series for F1, it's very hard to find rookies and follow them as they step up through series. It's great in MotoGP to follow riders from Moto3 all the way to MotoGP. Might also reduce the number of pay drivers and allow more talent to shine.

Also, the RC version of these short course trucks are way fun (but don't buy Traxxas trucks, buy HPI :P) Barnsy posted:I feel that F1 needs to go the way of MotoGP. Just spotted on the BBC F1 gossip columnquote:The migration of F1 broadcasts from free-to-air to pay channels in many countries is being blamed for global viewing figures slipping from 600m in 2008 to 425m in 2014. (Wall Street Journal) ..a 30% loss is pretty extreme.

At least it's not as extreme as the TV rights for Premiere League football - £10mil PER GAME going to the Football Association, I have no idea how the broadcasters will even make money at that price. And the FA has the same problems with lower league teams that FOM does with distributing money to lower teams, but it's multiplied by dozens (hundreds?) of small teams.

again, the worth of these sponsorship deals is more or less public information, with the exception of infiniti's deal, which seems to have been reported by no one. exxonmobil pays mclaren 35m USD/22m GBP. petronas pays mercedes 30m EUR, which is conveniently also 22m GBP. so what do you mean by "he can't get one that'll pay what he laughably considers he's worth" when they have non-title sponsors paying as much as other teams' title sponsors? pretend it's not mclaren. pretend it's team principal john bennis of team macleod, owned by that highlander guy. would you still just refuse to believe facts for no reason
