I remember the article you're talking about but I also can't find it. The fastest car though, it was something nuts like 8WD all powered by electric motors via a gas turbine generator. It also had full ground effects and a fan. It could theoretically take hairpins at something absolutely retarded like 160km/h. Made modern F1 cars look like go karts in comparison.

Can humans corner at 160km/h? That's like 8g or so isn't it?

IIRC Newey said 8G is near what the human body can take. His concept also used a fan, aside from the McLaren F1 I'm somewhat surprised fans haven't been used for downforce more often when permitted (as in road cars or hillclimbers).

Here is a good helmet;

It's 8 g on a 25 m radius corner, I'm guessing the monaco hair pin has a radius of ~6 m which would work out to 34 g.

Either you recall wrong or Newey is wrong ;). The main issue with sustained G-loading is when it's on the Z-axis (vertical), as the heart struggles to pump the blood to the brain. With a load on the X-axis, the tolerance is much much higher.

I wonder if anyone would have changed their helmet design knowing it would be locked in for the season. Or are they locked in based on the one they start Melbourne with? Are they allowed "special" helmets for practice and quali?

Stupid rules that do almost nothing... good job, FIA! That's surely what you should be spending your time on. Nothing else wrong around here!

The overall design being the same is a good thing (gently caress Vettel), I would hope they would allow drivers to add personal messages for home races, memorials, etc, as long as the main colour scheme isn't affected. It makes sense for drivers to be identifiable by their helmets.

Probably the former, I was going off the Wiki article for the X2010. Still, wouldn't such a car capable of that be very unpleasant to drive?

alright?
I'd hope they could come up with a rule that would say something like "a driver's helmet has to be recognizable to them and maintain the same design" while allowing for special one-offs that still fit the criteria, but I'm sure frauds would exploit it and make helmets with flashing lights that look like wood and poo poo.

What is it with you sperglords and helmets? If it's not complaining about poo poo designs it's complaining about them changing and not knowing which driver is which. I just don't get it. Learn which color camera/aerial thing each driver has on a team and you're good.

I don't have a problem identifying drivers, I just think changing helmets all the time is unnecessary and obnoxious. It's not something I lose sleep over, but on the other hand gently caress Vettel
