I think it's great that AI is standing strong with 13 on making a rational decision. We are talking about a real person's mental and financial wellbeing after all. That said, I won't lie - I feel like I've been teased by the 'Dick and am somewhat curious if this is covered by ![]()

^ it just got weird in here. ![]() I say save the money or put it into the Civic, unfortunately. This biturbo isn't even a manual, and there will always be another broken-down biturbo parked in a shed somewhere in the future.

There has to be a story involving the change from 13 to 12 inches and a horrible Biturbo accident.

The number of parts that list discontinued or closeout stock on rockauto are troubling, including my oil filters ![]()

I find it difficult to believe Rockauto is the end of the line for 70's Honda parts when I could practically rebuild a DeLorean from the ground up with available parts spread across three online merchants. Are vintage Hondas more orphaned than the stainless Time Machine we all love? edit: I mean no disrespect to Officer inch and his Civic. My uncle used to cart me around town occasionally in his green 1977 Civic when I was young. I think that was the first car I really took notice of because it was so small and different than my parents 1979 Plymouth Volare and 1970 Plymouth Duster. Okay, go type in 1975 Honda Civic _____________ on ebay and see how many results for HIDs and anodized lug nuts you have to scroll through before you find the part youre looking for. It's not necessarily the end of the line, but for some things it absolutely is. My throttle cable, for one. Oreilly's told me to CALL HONDA to see if they stocked it. My oil filter through Orielly's was like $16 last time, rockauto is obviously cheaper. And just simple things. Switches, my strut mounts, rubber products, electrical odds and ends.....Plus the fact that my car is a '75 makes it difficult. It's got early EB2 parts on it which mean some certain items are '73-75 ONLY and just because the parts store says it works for '73-88 doesnt mean it actually does at all. There are resources but for a vast majority of things it's just constantly trawling craigslist, 1stgencivic forum classifieds ads, thisoldhonda, etc. Not a whole lot of surviving early parts anymore.

Congratulations on your purchases 13". Seeing some civic love is as good as a biturbo. I currently have 4 project vehicles and have never ever totally finished any of them. I wish I had finished no1 before starting on 2, 3 and 4. Think about biturbos again when the civic is 'finished'! OFFICER 13 INCH posted:Okay, go type in 1975 Honda Civic _____________ on ebay and see how many results for HIDs and anodized lug nuts you have to scroll through before you find the part youre looking for. Isn't this eBay for pretty much any car part? (Try having a car with a model number that is like a year too - like a saab 99. Even more unrelated crap)

So what's the plan, are you going to make your own oil filters out of paper towels and whittle bushings out of chunks of rubber when they're NLA? Get an EF Civic hatch dude, best Civic ever made and you won't have this dumb problem trying to find parts.

Look at the all of the unwanted results for a common keyword and simply add -[keyword] to your search ex: 1975 honda civic -LED Wow I had no idea parts are that rare. You are truly doing the lord's work with your Civic.

This is probably a long shot but for the oil filter check to see if there is one that will mate up but has a different capacity. I know my SVX would take a 944 oil filter despite completely different part numbers and it actually had a bigger capacity.

![]() Tractors too, eh? ![]() While they don't give you any sane way to filter it, Fram does publish a whole catalog complete with filter specs. At a quick glance a Chevette filter seems like it might work too.

Well, as long as it's the right thread and diameter, and they haven't done anything weird with how the oil flows through it, all you really need to worry about is whether a filter that matches those variables will fit in the space, right?
|
![]() |
|
The tricky thing seems to be the combination of thread and gasket diameters. There are other M20-thread filters, including at least one that is common enough to get more than just the basic Fram PHxxxx part, but most of them have a much narrower gasket surface. With that said, the absolute worst-case scenario here, even if those filters disappear, would be having to get a custom adapter machined up to fit either a different filter directly, or just to give you some AN fittings so you can run a hose to a remote-mount and run something like a PH8A.

Hell I use some sort of car filter on my Yamaha FZ6, it's way cheaper than an actual bike filter and way way bigger.

I thought an oil filter also needed to obey a certain expectation of flow resistance, for a given oil weight?

I highly doubt fram or any of the other cheap filter makers take this into consideration when they shove a piece of cardboard into a metal housing. Edit: should clarify, I'm sure they have a general standard but I'd be very surprised if the filter material in any of the low end fram filters is different.
