Egbert Souse posted:Someone on CF noted the clock time is the same as the position in the title card for After Hours. That seems like a perfect Criterion movie. An underseen but deeply-appreciated "minor" work from one of the great directors that would most likely just sit in a vault somewhere until it's tossed out in some bigger set with no extras or real special care in the transfer because it wasn't what the set was being sold on. Now I'll be disappointed if it isn't. I loving love After Hours.

Egbert Souse posted:Just to recap, here's stuff Criterion is known to be working on: I thought this was more of a "Linklater says he'd like to see it/Other Linklater films have been on Criterion" thing in the same way that Moonrise Kingdom/Grand Budapest Hotel are assumed to become Criterions at some point down the line? Paramount explicitly bought the license for home video and claimed they would not be collaborating with Criterion, after all. EDIT: The main source for Criterion having Boyhood at some point is from a July 22 Q&A, which really doesn't say that at all: quote:Q: The Criterion Collection has worked with you before putting together special editions of your films. Is there a Criterion edition of Boyhood coming in the future and if so, can you talk about some of the special features we might see on the release? The only yeah there doesn't exactly say whether it's a "yeah, a Criterion edition is coming in the future" or "yeah, I can talk about some of the special features", though it sounds a lot like the latter, despite the later question quote:Q: Have they talked to you about when they want to release it? Which is pretty uncommittal. That's not to say Boyhood won't make it out on Criterion eventually, but I don't think it's going to come out in the next year or two. Even Moonrise Kingdom, presumably coming out this year, is 3 years after the original Fox DVD release. ComradeCosmobot fucked around with this message at 04:03 on Jan 3, 2015 |

There are just too many to go through all of them, really. I have a second copy of all of the ones that I'm interested in that I've already opened or will be keeping. I have like 1500 non-Criterion DVDs that I need to get rid of too at some point. As nice as it is to have them all, I need to free up some shelf space.

Have there been any developments in the reports of disc rot in criterions pressed in 2010? I just got a copy of Walkabout that looks fine, but I just remembered some discussion about that title and some others having quality control issues.

Wasn't Satyajit Ray somehow part of the production of The River which inspired him to make his own film? I remember there was some sort of connection between Renoir and and the young Ray.

Started watching the blu-ray of The Blob and it is a really fun movie. Much bigger budget and more polished than I thought. The blu-ray looks amazing with a lot of pretty noise and really bright colors. Also the music is great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzHDvzGmmw0 Definitely worth a blind buy if you're on the fence IMHO.

The restorations of the Apu Trilogy seems to be a huge project, so I'd imagine they want to make sure they're as perfect as possible. At least they have nearly all other Ray films they have licenses to on Hulu. I really liked The Music Room, so I'm eager to see more of his films (besides the Apu films, what else is highly recommended?)
