I can't tell if the joke is supposed to be "Gotcha! too bad they are both adults and had sex despite not dating!" or "Dating is by definition equivalent to having sex and being ruined for otaku waifu marriage"

God drat it, he gave in to the otakus.

I was hoping this show would be brave enough to show that it's normal for adults in their 20s to have adult relationships. But nope, got to pander to keep those yens rolling in.

People thought Yano and Hiraoka were/had dated/-ing? I just thought they were really good, long time industry acquaintances. They seemed too lighthearted about their opposing personalities to have ever had an intimate relationship.

Yano and Hiraoka are old co-workers who never became friends, which means having a history but also being cold to one another. That is also what exes are like. It's not that weird that the director had to clarify, and it probably wasn't just directed at 2ch.

More importantly, I think they serve the story well as two people who quickly burned out on anime in different ways. It was smart to give them all these scenes together in an episode that was mostly spent on people who have been in the industry for decades and still have a passion for it. It gave it cool balance.

I'm not sure a movie would be a good fit for something that has been as procedural as this story has been. I also have questions about whether or not they'd be able to strike the moe girls/crushing trials and tribulations of reality balance quite as well in a 90-120 minute timeframe.

There's lots of good TV shows about making TV shows, but comparatively fewer movies about making movies Well, good movies at least... that aren't pornography.

This show has shown that a show's quality is heavily reliant on the director and that a director isn't always affiliated with a studio (ie: Kinoshita is not actually part of Musani)

If they wanted to "keep it real" with Zuka there are plenty of ways they could have done that *insert edgy joke about hentai voice work here*, but they've already shown her success in background roles and that ridiculous live performance improv so I doubt they'd just drop her character like that.

Didn't we already see her fail an audition for hentai voice work? She was doing some embarrassing practicing on the train, but flubbed her lines in the studio, or something like that. It's not really that much easier to get a job like that.

That wasn't a hentai, it was a harem show. Obviously one of the more trashy harem shows considering the lines, but I'm pretty sure it was specifically for "I Think My Harem's Falling Apart (But I'm Not Sure)."

Also goddamn this show has some amazing soul reads on the names of its fake products.

Having the talent but never managing to break in to the work would actually be depressingly realistic, but I agree that something is probably going to happen with her.

I actually want to read the plot of this story because I have a feeling that it's some sort of reverse of the typical proceedings of a harem anime where they all start infatuated with the MC and then start leaving for various reasons.

Newbie Animator Hourly Wage: Around One Dollar

quote:

A newbie animator in Japan gets paid around 120 yen – that’s one, yes, one dollar – an hour.

That’s the word from animator and character designer Sachiko Kamimura (City Hunter, Arslan) in a recent blog post where she appeals for the industry to change its ways.

Kamimura writes “after seeing so many new animators unable to eat and slowing wasting away, I feel like something must be done.”

The problem, Kamimura writes, is animators are paid not on a monthly salary, but for each completed drawing.

Twenty years ago it might’ve been possible to draw enough frames to earn a decent living, she writes, but that’s impossible with the style of today’s anime, which requires more delicate lines.

She estimates that people with high skill who cut down their sleep and take no vacations can draw about 500 frames a month, earning far less than Tokyo’s minimum wage of 888 yen ($7.50) an hour.

In her appeal to the industry, Kamimura argues without decent wages, newbie animators are forced to drop out of the industry, which ultimately compromises the quality of anime.

Yep. There are a few studios where things are better off (KyoAni & Toei both pay a salary, Toei's is in addition to per-cut pay and I suspect KyoAni's is too but I don't actually know for sure) but for a lot of younger animators just getting started things are pretty dire.

Well there is an argument that CG is inherently more efficient--why have a human draw frames one by one when a computer can do that--but things won't be the same of course.
