Bravo. That's what probably a dozen actual racing speed laps they've managed then in 9 days of testing. Way over a lap a day! They are thrice as hosed as Redbull were this time last year with only 2 cars to get any mileage with.

Stationary testing wont put any g's on the cables or components. I reckon most of that stuff is caused by bits shifting around through corners and then being out of alignment or leaking slightly. A proper test shows these things up.

The problem with that though is even Renault weren't as bad with their mk1 engine. Honda had an extra year to see the problems everyone was having and get ahead of them, but still managed to cock it up badly.

Do you ever feel like the Fia just make poo poo up as they go along. Like they didn't air lift Bianchi to hospital because they said they don't use the helicopter to air lift people with head injury's. then airlift Alonso with a suspected concussion because that's totally fine to do now.

I suppose you could bolt it onto one of those astronaut trainers and spin it round while running but then you have to include all the stuff to keep it going. I'm sure they do simple things like bumping it around but I don't think anyone could simulate an engine being thrown around a track without it being on a track.

I wouldn't be surprised that the first time an engine is exposed to serious g's is when its first in the car.

Airlift makes sense because they are cryonically preserving Alonso's body and you have to get the temperature down super quick or it goes all mushy.

Remember Lotus were the first to hire Maria too. Apparently hiring women with terrible records as test drivers who will probably never see the car is their "thing".

If it wasn't more fun to continue laughing at McLaren I'd start listing the more talented options they could have gone for.

But let's just remind everyone that the reason she's not in those last 2 race meetings last year is because Dean Stoneman stepped into that exact same chassis.

And went win, 2nd, win in his first 3 races.

there have been worse test drivers and even race drivers in recent years than de villota/wolff/jorda, and few of them were ridiculed for being bad as they didn't make the unfortunate mistake of being a woman. you know this is why there aren't many female drivers, right? why would you want to be a racing driver as a woman if you knew everything you did would be treated as a joke by default?

I'm pretty sure every poor driver has been ridiculed for being bad. The problem is that by the time they get to the top level feeder series the pool of drivers hasn't been selected for talent, but for sponsorship, and as there's fewer female drivers in general you're even less likely to have a young woman with both marketability and talent than you are to have a young man with both. Add onto that a sport governed by leering old men who still think things like grid girls are totally ok...

E: also I have never mocked Suzie Wolff
