I think those little hints are meant to play into the pseudo-history documentary style of the series. Episode 84 spoilers: Like, if you were watching this in the LotGH world you'd already know that Yang dies to terraists, so commenting on Yang's last actions is something that makes perfect sense from the narrator.

They're honestly the best parts because you get bits where the narrator goes, 'yeah historians are divided whether this guy was good or evil and I have no idea why he did the things he did.'

If you were watching a documentary on WWII, for example, it would probably be mentioned pretty freely that the Axis lose, Hitler shoots himself, the Soviets win at Stalingrad, the Americans win at Midway, and so on and so forth. They'll still recount those events themselves in a way to capture their drama and importance, but the ultimate outcome is not necessarily something they'll keep the audience in suspense over.

His 7(?) part history of Rome is pretty great as well, plenty of poltical jockeying and backstabbing ( :v: ) for you to analyze with LoGH parallels. It was taking so many episodes to get through he just said gently caress IT and made the last ep a 3 hour long 'movie' podcast. Download his poo poo and get on that treadmill goons.

So I was thinking about Yang's character, and I realised that he's a historical archetype, but what's interesting is that he's an archetype that often applies to one's past enemies. That is, the archetype of the honourable, ethical leader who fought for the bad guys, or possibly for whichever side ends up losing. Consider Rommel or Yamamoto; both are considered to be much better people than the regimes they were fighting for, and both are considered to have been more or less infallible in combat itself. Though there is some truth to these ideas, the modern view of such figures often grows to mythological proportions.

Even during the events of the series itself, the respect held for Yang is perhaps greater among Imperial officers than among Republicans such as when Mecklinger requests permission for his men to be able to salute the holy grave of Yang Wen-Li.

Basically, Reinhard fits the criteria for what is considered to be the 'Great Man' of history, whereas Yang fits criteria for the 'Honourable Worthy Enemy' of history.

This show is pretty prude about it, and if you see nipples it's always because the soldiers are looking at some porn or because the historian in the documentary is talking about a period in history when people were whoring around.

There are a couple nude shots of women of character, but these are always "tasteful" like just butts in the shower or something.

No idea, but I just got to the end of season 3 where everyone sings it and goddamn I love this show.

Okay, just watched the first episode of season 4 and goddamn the new intro song is awful.

OP1 kind makes me cringe when the singer struggles to hit the note for "skies of love"

She doesn't seem to have any problems with OP2 and OP3

I figured this might interest some of the people here:

DMM, the browser game people responsible for KanColle are coming out with a Galactic Heroes browser game:

http://www.dmm.com/netgame/feature/ginei-ta.html

It's not released yet so I have no idea if it'll be any good (given the pedigree I'm assuming it'll be a mostly non-offensive "log in daily, run a couple missions, build up your armada" type thing) but it is free. ...and in Japanese.

If you preregister (you'll need to set up a DMM account, but once that's in hand preregistering is just pushing the button) you'll get either a free Reinheart or Yang once it starts.

I take no responsibility if it turns out to be terrible.
