Help me out with something I'm a bit bummed about here. I own three primary headset that I use regularly; Sennheiser HD598, MM550 and Momentum over-ear. MM550 wirelessly on the go, Momentum for blocking out noise at work, HD598 at home. Now, out of these 3, I am becoming increasingly disappointed in the sound stage of the HD598 compared to the other two (I've owned the HD598 the longest) when listening to bassy music genres. It's a bit flat. Is it because both my Momentum and MM550 are very bassy, or is it my setup for the HD598? HD598 receives audio that goes from a Cambridge DacMagic into a headphone amp whose name eludes me, it's pretty old. Momentum receives audio from a FiiO E18. MM550 is just Bluetooth audio from a phone.

As far as I'm concerned the comfort of the Audio-Technica headphones with the 3D Wing head support is almost unmatched, but I think the HD558/598 is a more well-rounded choice in the sub-$200 range even without an amp.

I can't get my AD 900x to stay on my head. The wing system doesn't seem "tight" enough? They slide down my head. I MUCH prefer the HD598s. Those are absolutely fabulous comfort-wise. Even with glasses.

The HD598/558/650 have decently hard clamp with pretty stiff pads. I own the HD650 currently and find that the headband design is rather small vertically while the comfort is decent, but softer pads would do it a world of justice.

I don't find Grado comfort, on the 60/80, awful unless you quarter mod them, but yeah definitely not great.

I much prefer the 3D Wing system because it doesn't place any weight on the top of my head. Every other headphone that does, no matter how it's padded, eventually causes discomfort at that point. Grados are on a whole other level of uncomfortable. That along with my general disdain for supra aural headphones means I've never come across one that I would really want to own, even the high-end ones that I've heard.

I've yet to find a headphone that plays Rush better than my SR-80s. I feel like I'm at the concert. That said - I can listen to like 2 songs and then I have to take a break but gosh do I love em.

asking for a friend: Budget - $150 Source - Computer, unamped Isolation Requirements - Closed Preferred Type of Headphone - Over ear Preferred Tonal Balance - he likes bass, but not overblown Past Headphones - Turtlebeach Preferred Music - electronic house stuff like daft punk, dubstep, metal, video games Here's the thing: I recommended the $100 Sony phones to which he replied he didn't want them even though they were everything he wanted soundwise because they looked like poo poo. He's a complete tool and really wants his gear to look good (even if he's never going to take it out of his room) without compromising on the sound.

Have any fellow goons used V-Moda headphones? I am looking at getting their XS http://v-moda.com/xs/ and would like opinions from anyone who are familiar with this brand/model. Would be for a mix of gaming and music. I like the detachable cords and the optional cord with a boom mic on which I would use when using coms in games. Music source would be my computer but I am going to be getting in the near future a Behringer UCA202 DAC. If anyone has a better headphone in the $200 ballpark I welcome suggestions. I cannot stand in ears, and the house is too noisy for open's. My music taste are quite varied I have a bit of everything from classical to rock/pop to electronica/trance to German symphonic metal , not sure how much this helps but I figured I'd put it out there. Sorry if these headphones have been previously discussed but I didn't really feel up to going through 78 pages of this thread to find out.

My friend bought some NVX XPT100 recently and they are actually the most absurdly comfortable closed headphones I've ever worn. The pads are just amazing.

I bought a Logitech G930 headset years ago that's finally given up the ghost. I've tried my backup headphones but I can't go back to stereo and I can't go back to wired. I pretty consistently used the headset mic while all over the house, so I don't see myself getting pure headphones rather than a combined headset with a mic. Given those criteria, are there many alternatives to buying a replacement G930?

I just got my ODAC/O2 headphone amp (from Epiphany Acoustics in the UK), and it's a drat nice piece of kit. Unlike the other USB DACs I've owned, it's completely 100% noise-free, even at full volume on the highest gain setting. It drives my DT-880s cleanly to levels that even Motörhead would find obnoxiously loud. I also have my main stereo hooked up through the rear line-outs, no complaints there either. Very highly recommended if you need a USB DAC and/or a headphone amp. Both parts can be bought separately as well, of course.

I absolutely loved mine, but they randomly died on me a few days ago. I'm really bummed, I didn't use them a ton and didn't beat on them. I bought a pair for my dad 2 months ago and the left bud died at almost the same time as mine. He used his even less and only had them for 2 months. So I'm looking for something durable and strong that won't die randomly, with a similar sound to the vsd1s. I'd like to spend less than $75, but can go up to $100 if I get a lot more durability or sound quality for my money. I'm becoming less satisfied with my HD280s from a comfort standpoint and am considering an upgrade. So I'm looking for some goon advice. Budget - $100-$125 Source - Mainly my desktop and laptop. Isolation Requirements - I will be wearing these at work so I will probably require decent isolation. Preferred Type of Headphone - Over-ear Preferred Tonal Balance - Bass-heavy to balanced. Past Headphones - I currently own a pair of HD280s. I don't have any complaints, sound-wise, but they are crazy uncomfortable to wear (too warm, also like putting your head in a vice). I honestly don't have a frame of reference for other manufacturers to say if there was a sound characteristic I liked better or worse. Preferred Music - A lot of different stuff, but mostly hip hop, electronic and some rock. Note that I also would likely use these headphones for gaming.

Does anyone have any experience with the Logitech G430? My previous headset broke after 4 years of use and this seems like a fine replacement for someone who wants to use it both for music and gaming while on a budget. Budget - $100-$200 Source - PC (MSI gaming laptop), but occasionally my phone. Isolation Requirements - I want to put them on and slip into another plane of existence. Preferred Type of Headphone - Over-ear (closed circumaural) Preferred Tonal Balance - balanced Past Headphones - HD280s. I love these. They have served me well for 5-6 years but now they are broken and worn. I'm pretty sure I can fix them up, replace the cable and put some new cups and head pad on them, but that will run me 1/2 to 2/3rds the cost of a new pair. Ifigure I might as well upgrade. Preferred Music: I don't listen to a lot of music at my PC. Usually at work, in the car, or working out, so I don't care too much about that with these. Use: Gaming. I watch TV and Movies on my laptop too, so having quality sound for that would be nice, but when I really want to watch something with the full experience I have a home theater. So mainly gaming. Preferred but not required: Mic. Would be really nice. Right now I put a dumb mic from a cheap pair of head phones on when I need to use voice. Sometimes I use the laptop mic but it's not the best. Preferred but not required: Volume control. MSI decided not to put it on a media key or add an indicator. So I gotta use the function keys and such. Would be nice if it was just on the headphones. What I looked at: http://en-us.sennheiser.com/g4me-zero Pros: Pretty much everything I was looking for. Range is not as nice as the HD280 but so close I'd never notice. Cons: Impedance is like 150. Not sure how that will go on a laptop without amp. The HD260s are only 64. Price is like $275 MSRP but B&H is selling for 190 right now. Various other sennheiser PC headsets: usually the problem is the ones I really like are not closed circumaural. Pipe dream option: http://en-us.sennheiser.com/wireless-bluetooth-headset-headphone-smartphone-mm-500-x I love these. Range isn't as nice, but I could in theory pair them with my phone and then just use the cable at my PC. Then I could take calls on them, or pair with the PC for headset... But it's probably a huge pain in the rear end to pair with multiple devices and use the mic on the PC so it's not really worth it. If it was easy though I would consider blowing my budget for them. They basically have a bunch of features I really like, but I doubt they work the way I imagine. Anyway I will probably get the horribly named g4me-zero unless anybody else has some suggestions?

Rock, House, EDM, Hip-hop, occasional pop I've been eyeing up the Audio Technica ATH-M50x, but wondering if they are going to be a bit too large. I'm looking for a nice headphone to use in the gym that isn't going to make me look like a space nerd (might be too late for that anyways). Don't hate on me too hard, but it looks like I can get brand new Beats Solo2 's for around $135 on eBay. They're a bit more compact. Obviously they won't have the sound of the M50X.
