"We have not come to defile the tomb," Lavi says, showing the great golden scale. "Instead, we have come to stop the one who intends to do just that."

The felyne nervously looked back at the door as the dragon retreats. "I believe that dragon out there seeks an artifact deep in these catacombs...you wouldn't happen to know what that artifact is?" Deep down Lavi was quite curious what kind of artifact it was, and if it was a weapon they could use against the dragon. Not to mention his scale got them in the catacombs in the first place.

The captain kneels to take a close look at the scale. Curiosity in his features turns to recognition, and then to joy. He stands and raises sword high.
"Legion, a descendant of the champion has come! Hail him in the Golden Wyrm's name!"
As one, the assembled spirits raise their sword and shout.
"All hail the champion! May her line be ever blessed!"

In the ethereal light of their swords, you see the walls of the room clearly. Depictions of a Felyne, fighting demons, dragons, orcs, leading armies, building cities, and performing every act of heroism imaginable line the walls. Images of the Great Golden Wyrm, free to fly in the air, fighting alongside this Felyne. And in the back, above the central tomb, the Great Golden Wyrm giving a scale to a kneeling Felyne.

The assembled spirits kneel as one.
"Descendant of the champion, we do indeed guard artifacts, held in the final resting place of Champion of the Golden Wyrm. But our rites demand her descendants must pass a test to lay claim to these objects. Will you accept this challenge?"

Moju

Moju pats dust and debris from its layers of greatcoats, then looks up in surprise as a legion of ghosts swarms through its body. "Wh--" it gasps, reeling back against the iron doors. "By the shadows!"

After a few moments, it recovers. Just in time for that same legion to start saluting and praising Lavi. Moju groans softly. "Oh, as if he weren't difficult enough to live with already..."

Like a great wave, the spirit legion forms ranks, drawing their swords and locking shields. The captain stands and places a helmet on his head.

"There is but one trial. Place your hand on the tomb of your ancestor! Your allies are indispensable for victory! If you can succeed against the Golden Legion, your worth will be proven."

There must be an army between you and the tomb! But Isaac could tell you, spirits this old tend to be singleminded and stubborn. For now, you'll have to play their games.

"That’s cheating! You know the rules: once you sacrifice something here, you don’t get it back!"

Twelve Serene Star

Twelve is absolutely amazed by the appearance of the spirits, and even more so by the revelation of the link between wyrm and felyne. He is stunned into a silence that is only broken once the nature of the trial is revealed.

"This is a lot like how things were done back home," he says with a nostalgic smile. "Tests between those who respected one another - trials of combat - even the atmosphere is similar. I never fought ghosts before...If that's what these are. So be it. Throw you? No, ser knight, this is your fight. Let's show them what our felyne can do."

With a single flash of red light The Orc Lord stands before the spirits in his full glory. Each muscle jumps and spasms to his heartbeat. Short, stubby fangs pierce through his cheeks and upper lips, trickling blood down his face. He leaps into the very centre of the nearby legionnaires, grabs one by the ankle and uses it to club two others.

Isaac is surprised to see such a large amount of spirits assembled. He starts pondering on what kind of powerful magics were used to guard the chamber, but then Twelve's great display of violence quickens him into action. "Good! Thin out their numbers so that Lavi can reach his prize. But avoid getting too carried away, we still have a dragon left to fight today!"

In a commanding voice Isaac speaks to the legionnaires. "Begone spirits! I release you from your obligations, travel freely to the otherworld!" But much to his dismay none of them heed his words, their oaths prove much too strong.

"Heh, nice try but let ol' Pyrrhus show you how to banish spirits!"

Pyrrhus charges towards the captain to take a bite out of his leg, but as he is about to dig his teeth in the image of the spirit blurs and his attack phases through its shin.

"That's not fair! Give me back my roaring fire breath and I'll really show you how to do it!"

The Orc Lord smiles broadly as the spirits close in - an action which drags his protruding fangs through several inches of his own skin. His face is now a bloody mess, but he barely seems to care - such is the chaotic violence of the spirit. His eyes glow with the vicious hunger of a hunter, then he is a spinning blur of slashes and kicks. He moves from spirit to spirit, dispatching them with no finesse, but overriding power. One by one they fall, vanishing to smoke and light, until he stands before the Captain, breathing heavily and with barely a scratch on him.

"THIS IS SO MUCH FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!"

Being that the captain is undead, the result is not as fatal as desired, but the sickeningly real crunch of bone is still satisfying. Banishing the spirits proved ineffective, but what about misappropriating their residual life energies? Isaac runs to the center of the room and raises his staff high in the air, golden dust is drawn towards the focus from the legionnaires in front of him as he starts channeling. The golden particles dance around the tip of the staff for a moment before they shoot off to the other end of the room where they envelop Ryu, he can feel his wounds begin to close as the dust settles on his body.

Meanwhile Pyrrhus tugs at the arrow that is holding down his shadow.
"This is ridiculous, how does this even work physically? Argh! I hate magic!"

"Such strength, Honored of Silver! Indeed, in another Age I would have gladly dueled you in single combat. But alas, this is a trial of wit and will. Prove your own, Honored of Silver, and prevent me from stopping your ally!"
There's a flash of light from his shield, and when Ryu blinks, the Captain is already rushing down the tomb towards Lavi.

Moju

Feeling the arrows disintegrate in its feet, Moju hustles up next to the Orc Lord and casts an uncertain glance at the powerful creature. "Now then, remember your allies," it mutters, shaking out its sleeves and preparing a spell. "Do try not to kill me."

While the more substantial fighters are taking on the front line, Moju starts to work on the mage artillery. Conjuring up a miniature constellation of stars, it sends them shooting towards the yellow mage more in an attempt to distract him than anything else.

miss me? sorry, Wednesdays are my super busy day.

Hearing the Captain's orders, the remaining legionnaires split into pairs and rush forward to meet you!
Two of them single out Isaac, and move to try to lock him down. However, they ignore Pyrrhus in their zeal, which proves to be their undoing. The skeletal dog takes a moment of distraction to leap on one's back, bringing the soldier to the ground and tearing out his ghostly throat! The other is shaken by the turn of events, and only manages to give Isaac a superficial wound under his robes.

Another two move forward to meet Lavi in combat, demonstrating their discipline and training with simultaneous attacks. Lavi parries one slice only to have the other find its way past his guard. The ghostly blade gleams slightly with blood.

The final pair sets up to protect the mages and prevent anyone else from getting any further.

Two legionnaires engage Isaac, one takes an OA from Pyrrhus
Pyrrhus hits, does 6 damage, kills one!
Isolated legionnaire swings at Isaac, hits at 13 vs AC, 3 damage!

Two legionnaires engage Lavi, attack.

(I haven't used my Evasive yet this battle, gonna use it on the most recent roll to save a little HP for later. Holding my actions until after Twelve throws me to the goal.
EDIT: Actually, can I try to use Evasive on the arrows the mages sent? I'll save more damage that way.)

Twelve Serene Star

The Orc Lord charges up to Lavi, then blinks stupidly down at him.

"FINISH THE BATTLE?....BUT THIS IS SO MUCH FUN!...FIIIIIIIINE!"

He grabs a handful of neck scruff, leans back, then launches Lavi high over the heads of the spirits towards the goal at the end of the path. The toss is netiher gentle, nor particularly graceful, but it IS powerful.

Re-roll of the mage arrow still hit, this time at 23 vs PD. Least it didn't crit again!
and sorry I missed that ability, Captain Walker :(:

As for that throw, well, with a roll like that...

Lavi is picked up and thrown, sailing over the astonished heads of all the legionnaires and the mages. Felyne's may or may not always land on their feet, but Lavi at least escapes severe injury as lands on the sarcophagus itself.

Immediately, the spirits stand down, lowering their swords, axes, and wands. As one, they face the sarcophagus and kneel.
"Well fought!" Bellows the Captain, "Our task, for now, is over. Hail the Champion, may her line be ever blessed!"
Slowly, the soldiers fade away into nothingness, leaving the tomb dark, save the dim outline of the Captain, still kneeling.

Instead, another spirit appears near the sarcophagus, this one shimmering and dim compared to the brilliant glory of the previous ones. Slowly, the vague shape of a Felyne, a bit shorter, more scarred, appears before you and takes you all in.

"You know, as I got more famous, people said the throwing thing was beneath me." The voice is ethereal, but not unkind. "But I never really lost faith in its effectiveness. Finally one of my progeny returns, eh? Didn't think I'd ever see one of you ever again, not since the last one."

The spirit of the Champion of the Golden Wyrm stands before you, though whether she was what anyone expected is up to debate. For now, she is willing to talk to any of you.

Lavi gives a respectful bow, but relaxes when he can tell the spirit is as laid back as he is. "It helps to have a strong companion who can do the hard part for you." Then he gives a wide grin. "So I'm not the first one to come here, I take it then?"

The Champion walks a circle around Lavi, taking him in.
"No, not at all. After I was buried I was visited just about once every generation. Quite nice, honestly, I got to hear about things going on, keep tabs on the family. The last one though... I think it's been six centuries? That one ran in, utterly upset, returned the family heirloom, and started blubbering something about never being able to face the Wyrm's enemies again. Couldn't get a word in edgewise, unfortunately."

As she chats, she trots behind the sarcophagus and presses something. Ancient hinges creak as it swings open, revealing the contents inside.

"Don't be squeamish now, my old bones are a bit lower down. This was supposed to be a bit high traffic after all."

Within are three magical items. The first is an ancient tome, the second is a pair of magical bracers. And in the middle, a beautiful filigreed belt, with a scale shaped slot over the buckle.

"Go on, try it on."

Isaac gets a Tome of Foresight. When you roll initiative, you can add 10 to the roll after seeing the result. (Recharge +16)
Twelve gets Bracers of Reckless Abandon +1. You're first attack each battle does +2d6 damage.
Lavi gets the Belt of the Champion. You get +1 maximum recoveries (that does mean an extra one right now as well), and 1/battle, if someone else is hit by an attack, you can take half the damage instead and recharge one use of Lay on Hands Well Cooked BBQ

"The Tome of Foresight." Isaac mutters the title of the book and starts leafing through it but finds that all pages are blank, he stops on a page and suddenly words appear! The language that is written is archaic and hard to make sense of but he surmises that the words tell of the near future of that which is going on nearby. This should help him greatly from getting caught off guard.

"As if you didn't have enough dusty old tomes Isaac! Should I run back to the HQ and notify Sellie that she the study needs to be expanded? There comes a point where this must be classified as an obsession you know."
"You are a dragon stuck in a wolf's skeleton that likes to chew on bones. Let's leave the psychoanalysis to the professionals."
"Hey, everyone needs a hobby. Besides, crunching on a chewy bone helps me reminisce to the good old days of burning down hamlets and, well, crunching on chewy bones."

Isaac regards the Felyne spirit with curiosity. An unlikely hero to be sure, but there's no denying the combat prowess that her bloodline possesses. She would be highly useful to have at their side if possible. "Speaking of facing the Wyrm's enemies, there is a dragon that has assaulted the Citadel and we could certainly use your help. Are you able to leave these catacombs and help us slay it?"

Lavi listened sadly as he heard the story of his ancestors. That probably explained why he didn't hear about the tomb before.

Though upon realizing the belt was for him, he didn't hold back and quickly put it on over his Jaggi-hide armor, slotting in the scale of the Golden Wyrm. Despite several centuries of being carried around, it still fit in like a charm. "It fits perfectly," he said, feeling a sudden burst of confidence from the belt. "Nyahaha, that red dragon won't see it coming!"

"It should, that scale is harder than steel. You know, I like you. You're a tough sort, and mindful too. Just try to remember the little people while you build your legend."

She listens to Isaac, and seems to realize something, walking to the sarcophagus and reminiscing about something.

"A red dragon in the citadel... That can only really mean one thing. The Golden Citadel is a ruin, isn't it? This old box here... it's on top of the first stone we placed for the Citadel's foundation. And when we built this tomb around it, we bound it to our oath, that every paladin that died in the service of good would protect this citadel as a holy place."

She looks back at you, and now there is a steel in her eyes.
"We can help against this dragon, but you'll have to smash this sarcophagus first. There's nothing left to guard here."

There is a golden glow, a sizzling sound, and the smell of burning metal. When she hands it to Ryu, the stone feels heavier than its size would suggest, and placed upon it is a seal. The Golden Wyrm's head in a Felyne paw.

"There you go, something to remember me by. I expect the new place to be a little brighter than this dump, y'hear? As for this dragon problem...

Breaking the sarcophagus will release us all from our oaths. We'll shuffle along to the afterlife soon after, but until then, we're free to help you any way we can. Might be an advantage against the ugly squatter upstairs, hm?"

"Before we get started I have a request from you, Twelve: can you go to the armory and find Corporal Peddy, preferably before you do that Orc Lord thing you do? I'm likely to be indisposed with the dragon, and I promised I'd bring him back safe. The rest of us will overwhelm the beast; it's guarding the entrance to the catacombs, so we'll give it what it wants. Are we ready?!"

He rears back and charges up. "I release you from your bonds, Golden Champion and retinue! Your final task: kick some dragon rear end!" A powerful volcano kick smashes the sarcophagus neatly in two, and the spirits of the soldiers roar forth, ready for battle!
