It's not that Marussia will be four seconds slower, but they might be slightly slower given the bit they've had to modify, the front wing, is the most important aero piece on the thing.

The problem though is, they're 4 seconds from safety and Mercedes look to be 3.5 faster than last year. Also now instead of 2 guys with a year's F1 experience they've got 2 rookies both of whom have only ever driven a Caterham F1 car in any kind of anger.

If Mercedes are 0.5 seconds quicker than we think they are, or any of a frankencar, Stevens or Merhi are 0.5 seconds slower, they're in trouble.

Yeah, I still think there's a reasonable chance that if Lewis or Nico slam in a killer lap for Q1, and *whatshisname* or *thatotherguy* have a bit of trouble putting together a solid full lap, that they could be over 107%. But now that I think about it... they'll probably just be allowed to race for *reasons* anyway, this being the cheatingest sport in the world and all.

I generally like the high speed circuits, and I've never completely gotten over Hockenheim's mutilation. Monza and Austria are the last of their kind.

Races at old Hockenheim were boring as hell IMO. New Hockenheim isn't much, but the 1990 German GP at old Hockenheim put me to sleep when I watched it, and that was a classic season overall.

I would be 100% on board with a redesign of monaco by the best example they can find of young fresh track designers who can modernize it and make the lap a little longer, while keeping historic elements like the tunnel, casino square and the final corner before the main straight jackie stewart always watches from intact. Modernizing spa certainly didnt ruin its classic appeal. (Hungaroring or Silverstone, on the other hand.... i have NO idea why they would ever gently caress with silverstone after the 90s era, it was featureless but a great circuit)

If they want to host the 100th anniversery of formula 1 cars racing there they will likely have to, before the cars get too fast to go slow, or they kill someone.

Whats more important, monaco millionaire #1245's empty winter home he last stayed in in 2008 (because he died in 2010 and the family is still fighting over it), or preserving the future of the most prestigious event that puts this podunk little eurotown on the map? They lose the race and they can look forward to being a has-been discount vacation destination for the indian middle class, not a seaside town full of glitz, glamour and money.

Widen the track, make it longer with a little high speed section somehow (I'm not doubting this is a difficult undertaking), and give it a few tiny runoff areas.

I do too, but is it even really possible to pass at Monaco? I mean yes, cars get passed, but realistically speaking if two cars are racing head to head, how many legit opportunities to overtake are there?

Everybody should go to Monaco for the Grand Prix if they have the chance, it's great. The experience of watching it live is definitely better than watching it on TV, especially if your stay includes a day either side of the race weekend (ie wednesday-monday).

Wednesday you have basically unrestricted access to the paddock area, just walk around as the teams are setting up the motorhomes, walk down the pitlane and chat to the crews as they're unloading stuff and bolting the cars together (it's really chill before the team bosses turn up on thursday). This is also the best day to chain your seats to railings and secure a good spot in the general admission area (secteur rocher).

Thursday we paid for all day tickets at the swimming pool complex watching free practice and feeder series quali. You can also see cars zoom past on the main straight if you sit at the top like we did and look behind.

Friday there's no F1 but you can get in free to any of the stands to watch porsches and the gp2 crashfest (we watched in casino square)

Saturday we didn't bother to buy tickets to watch quali or the gp2 sprint, but instead watched on tv in a couple of different bars, including DC's local where he buys Red Bull by the crate

Sunday we went general admission and stood/leant/sat for hours on a steep hill crammed with fans of all nationalities with a good view of the pit lane, Rascasse and Anthony Nouges. Video screens are surprisingly well placed around the track.

The range of view is actually a lot better than this photo shows
