:siren: NOT TO GET ALL AUSPOL ON U BUT....:siren:

Depression can come and go in waves, particularly if he wasn't in treatment at the time. He may well have been legitmately disabled by it at the time, and has now come out the other side of the black cloud and can go about leading a normal, happy, productive life. We should wish for such an outcome for anyone suffering depression. The depression wasn't some cycnical ploy on his part, what we are seeing here is simply 'getting better'.

:siren: NOW TO GET ALL TROOFBOMB :siren:

Rumour is a big part of his depression was self inflicted due to him loving about with a stripper and ruining his current relationship. It's not like someone close to him died unexpected and he couldn't handle the grief, it was brought about by him behaving like a piece of poo poo. He then proceeded to happily train with Melbourne post depressive stage, a club that had supported him unconditionally, knowing full well he was bailing on the club so he could have a quick and easy grab at some silverware.

Depression sufferers are just like all other people, in that some of them are total bastards.

But we're all going to pick him first in supercoach anyway.

Pretty much this.

I do feel sorry for the bloke in some ways and I have no doubt he had a major depressive episode and he's come out the other end, maybe there's another one on the way somewhere down the line in 1, 2, 5 or 10 years. I spent the last 4 years studying this stuff and it does get hard to see people wave it away like that it can't possibly be depression (not that I think anyone here is actually doing that, but the broader football community).

But, as you said, having depression doesn't give one immunity from being a dick and making dick decisions. Maybe the environment at Melbourne at the time of his depression is something he associates as part of it and wanted to break away from, but at the same time we've seen how fast Melbourne turned their list over a new coach and its not exactly the same place. Or maybe once he came out the other side he went "gently caress this, I want to go somewhere where I have a chance at a bit of success". Which does give Melbourne who did their best to support him a bit of a reason to be pissy with him. The other thing that works towards the being a dick factor is that it's not the first time he's done something like this, with his "I want to go home to Per-nah just kidding, going to Melbourne".
I'm surprised he didn't go back home to Perth this time though, specifically to Freo. Surely they could pay him big bucks, he'd be at home and slot straight into a team that needs exactly what he can offer (if fit).

I wish him well, but more importantly, the Dandenong Tiprats will wish him well.

Ah, Jupiter, is he to leave,

is a foreigner to pour scorn on our kingdom? Shall my Tyrians

ready their armour, and follow them out of the city, and others drag

our ships from their docks? Go, bring fire quickly, hand out the

weapons, drive the oars! What am I saying? Where am I?

What madness twists my thoughts? Wretched Dido, is it now

that your impious actions hurt you? The right time was then,

when you gave him the crown. So this is the word and loyalty

of the man whom they say bears his father’s gods around,

of the man who carried his age-worn father on his shoulders?

Couldn’t I have seized hold of him, torn his body apart,

and scattered him on the waves? And put his friends to the sword,

and Ascanius even, to feast on, as a course at his father’s table?

True the fortunes of war are uncertain. Let them be so:

as one about to die, whom had I to fear? I should have set fire

to his camp, filled the decks with flames, and extinguishing

father and son, and their whole race, given up my own life as well.

O Sun, you who illuminate all the works of this world,

and you Juno, interpreter and knower of all my pain,

and Hecate howled to, in cities, at midnight crossroads,

you, avenging Furies, and you, gods of dying Elissa,

acknowledge this, direct your righteous will to my troubles,

and hear my prayer. If it must be that the accursed one

should reach the harbour, and sail to the shore:

if Jove’s destiny for him requires it, there his goal:

still, troubled in war by the armies of a proud race,

exiled from his territories, torn from Iulus’s embrace,

let him beg help, and watch the shameful death of his people:

then, when he has surrendered, to a peace without justice,

may he not enjoy his kingdom or the days he longed for,

but let him die before his time, and lie unburied on the sand.

This I pray, these last words I pour out with my blood.

Then, O Tyrians, pursue my hatred against his whole line

and the race to come, and offer it as a tribute to my ashes.

Let there be no love or treaties between our peoples.

Rise, some unknown avenger, from my dust, who will pursue

the Trojan colonists with fire and sword, now, or in time

to come, whenever the strength is granted him.

I pray that shore be opposed to shore, water to wave,

weapon to weapon: let them fight, them and their descendants.

This passion lifted him upon his feet,
And made his hands to struggle in the air,
His Druid locks to shake and ooze with sweat,
His eyes to fever out, his voice to cease.
He stood, and heard not Thea’s sobbing deep;
A little time, and then again he snatch’d
Utterance thus. - «But cannot I create?
«Cannot I form? Cannot I fashion forth
«Another world, another universe,
«To overbear and crumble this to nought?
«Where is another chaos? Where?» - That word
Found way unto Olympus, and made quake
The rebel three. - Thea was startled up,
And in her bearing was a sort of hope,
As thus she quick-voic’d spake, yet full of awe.

«This cheers our fallen house: come to our friends,
«O Saturn! come away, and give them heart;
«I know the covert, for thence came I hither.»
Thus brief; then with beseeching eyes she went
With backward footing through the shade a space:
He follow’d, and she turn’d to lead the way
Through aged boughs, that yielded like the mist
Which eagles cleave upmounting from their nest.

Meanwhile in other realms big tears were shed,
More sorrow like to this, and such like woe,
Too huge for mortal tongue or pen of scribe:
The Titans fierce, self hid, or prison-bound,
Groan’d for the old allegiance once more,
And listen’d in sharp pain for Saturn’s voice.

"Most mornings I'll apologise in advance to my wife."
The 2 smart choices from Geelong are Mitch Clark and Jimmy Bartel, who, though a foward, has spent the last 2 games right in the guts of the midfield and has tonned up both games. Nakia looks like a gem but I wouldn't expect more than a handful of flashy touches a game from him this year.

Yeah I know, I was being more tongue in cheek about it. I know plenty of people with depression (I work in Catering/Restaurants), but they don't just give up their livelihoods because things got tough. Ofcourse I don't know what's going on Mitch's mind, but I don't think he should be playing football again this year so quickly if he has clinical depression that needs monitoring, especially seeming it was part of the reason he was depressed in the first place. I agree with the sentiments that depression is a poo poo and unpredictable thing, but in my honest opinion I think he was bluffing half of it. It just seems way too convenient.
