Assuming Converge counts as metalcore. Then I think I have an idea.

Yeah that Journal album is very close to being my favorite -core album of all time, their style of melody is goddamn brilliant - they're heavily inspired by Final Fantasy soundtracks of all things - and the guitarist's skill is impressive as hell. The songwriting gets a bit too disorganized at times but it's worth checking out the whole album if you liked that song.

Sort of a continuation of the 7A7P sound, with a more modern edge. Not as noisy or chaotic as Gaza, but really great.

Definitely get the Vassafor and Temple Nightside full lengths if you haven't(and both bands have new albums coming out this year to look for). As for other similar stuff, Antediluvian, Mitochondrion, Irkallian Oracle, Impetuous Ritual, probably Grave Upheaval too. There's a lot of bands doing various permutations of that 'occult' black/death sound at the moment.

Did that Journal song have a jingle from Final Fantasy in it? And it came out in 2010?! I like some of these bands being posted but lol

I usually refer to the more metal-oriented metalcore bands as metallic hardcore. But that's probably kind of dumb/lame. I'm talking about bands like Converge when I use that term.

Speaking of which, I'm psyched for that At the Gates tour in a couple weeks with them. They have a DVD coming out soon too which should be sweet, cause they do pretty well recorded, IMO.

Super Metroid's item jingle. The song after that plays the Super Mario Bros. "Bowser castle" theme as a tapping riff too :v:. The video game music influence can sometimes be gimmicky as hell but the general vibe of the melodies is very lush and evocative, reminds me of some of my favorite game soundtracks.

It's worth mentioning that the album is a concept album whose plot takes a lot from several Final Fantasy games. There's the dissonant opener about the protagonist's village being destroyed, the triumphal song about finding the legendary sword that can dispel evil, and the last two songs are about entering the final dungeon and killing the final boss. It sounds like a terrible idea but the album is so memorable and flows so well (for the most part) that I can get past that.

I think they're pretty good performers. Their last album was utter trash and I'm not sure what their set list is like nowadays, but I think you'll still have a good time watching them. Expect it to be goofy.

Not really... but uh, hell, did you ever listen to those two big Crimson concept albums by Edge of Sanity? I mean, it's not gonna sound exactly like that, but they are both big huge long songs that have a lot of those mellow passages and a lot of prog stuff going on.
