Some very interesting reviews coming out for Rev2.

http://www.thejimquisition.com/2015/03/resident-evil-revelations-2-episode-4-metamorphosis-review/
Sure, Sterling is known for his persona, but it's like Resident Evil beat him as a child or something.

quote:

Really, we could have done without the first half of Barry and Natalia’s final chapter, as they waste their time (and ours) wandering around in a bunch of boring corridors choking on gas. As with last episode’s box “puzzle”, there’s nothing really challenging about this installment’s particular slice of content padding – you have to run in corridors of gas and get to high ground before you choke. Choke on the gas. Because of all the gas. If you’ve played some videogames before, you’ve likely run into similar situations, because nothing Revelations 2 has done so far has been even slightly original,

http://www.destructoid.com/review-resident-evil-revelations-2-episode-4-288704.phtml
Comapared to Chris' review for Destructoid, it's kinda jarring. Sterling hated parts that Chris points out as being engaging, among other nuances.

quote:

One of my favorite elements involves areas with a deadly gas, where both Barry and Natalia are forced to constantly move to higher ground to get a breath of fresh air. You can spend roughly 30 seconds in the gas before the screen starts to become hazy and you pass out, which lends itself well to some tricky sections with lengthy mine tunnels filled with enemies who are impervious to its effects. To say it gets tense is an understatement.

One of the gas sections (the one with a poo poo-load of zombies and like four tunnels to explore) got kind of tedious but overall I enjoyed the gas mechanic. It definitely added some tension and sense of urgency. It worked especially well for the final boss fight.

Sterling's a clickbait douchebag. It's not that Resident Evil beat him as a child; it's that nobody paid enough attention to him. He did the same thing with Dying Light.

No, but Sterling does do clickbait articles and has admitted doing as much. Like this isn't even a "he bad and I don't like," he's straight-up said that is his intention. He also does it with positive reviews too (see: Deadly Premonition.)

Stupid people are great at winning arguments, because they're too stupid to realize they've lost.
I'm not surprised R2 is getting mixed reviews, it had a lot of things I thought were really good (Barry's dialogue) and some parts that were just terrible (the invisible instakill enemies can eat a bag of dicks).

I sprinted head first into one during the escape section of Claire's Chapter 4 before I even realised it was there. Their kill animation is horrifying.

Same here. I thought their kill animation was just them snapping your back and dropping a bunch of baby glasps on you to feed. Am i missing something or just incredibly inured to disturbing violence?

I feel deeply uncomfortable about HUNK staring into my loving soul after he snaps a dude's neck at 10fps.

He really isn't.

Both he and Yahtzee have the same problem. They've learned they get more people looking at their work when they're relentlessly negative, so they pursue that at the cost of all else. Sterling's clearly got the education and experience to be a somewhat incisive critic if he wanted to be, but every review of his I've read is primarily meant to feed the Internet's ceaseless rage boner, even if it means getting facts about the game wrong.

Geight posted:

It's not that he didn't like it; it's that he's blowing up the game's weak spots past the point of parody. It may be fun for people who like that sort of thing to read, but as actual useful commentary/criticism on the game, it's worse than useless. It's not a games review so much as Sterling playing his role as the cranky doom-slinging fucko of video games, just like every other thing he does.

There are always a sizable number of people, in any hobby, who have not yet realized that the reason things seem to have gotten worse since they were kids is because they are no longer thirteen, and as such, are not often as capable of unquestioning adoration. Jim Sterling's job is to provide these people with anger porn. He is as useful a critical voice on any topic as a gallon of rendered bacon fat.

I'm red-green color-blind, so I had a hard time finding them onscreen in Natalia-Vision, and I wouldn't have known about using smokescreens on them at all were it not for this thread. So yeah, they've killed me more than anything else.

Did the alternate smoke colors for Natalia help you at all? They're kinda deep in the menus, like the RE4 laser sight thing.

Seconding this solution I'm also red-green colourblind and I find it makes all the difference to fiddle with those options. You can get a nice whitish glow to contrast a red/green for awareness/ambient enemies.

I didn't know that was there, since I don't explore the options on a game as thoroughly as I should, so thanks for that. They worked all right, although if somebody were to issue a PC mod that surrounded enemies in Natalia-Vision with a white border or something, that'd be ideal.

Just beat the game with the good ending. It's a little rushed, I think, and a little bare-bones, but it's a step forward overall.

In the third bit of The Struggle, what's the deal with the countdown that starts if you get spotted? I just ran around for the 30 seconds until I failed because there was no way I'd kill them all in that time (also it's stupid the revenants move super fast)

If you get spotted (which is ridiculously easy), you just have to run to that slope in the way south and it'll automatically end the part. I still had four rations, so I wasn't too bothered by it, but I imagine if the previous part gave you trouble, losing out on a chance to gather more could be irritating.

Just posting to say that the 2.1 patch fixed my framerate issues completely. Even the title screen doesn't slog at 25 fps anymore. Going to try to up my setting when I get a chance. That snowstorm protection level in Gauntlet II runs just as well as the rest of the game now. I think I'm going to start over my campaign now that the game runs smoother. Maybe I'll be less agitated at everything now.

I bought one of each part box for raid mode.

The Gold one cost around 25,000 REP(!!!) it had a damage level 11.
The Silver one had a capacity 7.
The Bronze one had a capacity 4.

Man that area drove me nuts. There's just so drat many of the revenants and they'll see you so easily.

At least you're able to stealth kill them, but they also seem really good at detecting you while you're sneaking up.

People are supposed to get hurt by things. It's fucked up to not. It's not good for you.
Was about to post singing the praises of the new patch and how the game is now actually playable for me but apparently the combination of auto-save and bloom lighting conspired to take the game from Fine then to stuttery slow Caution and then finally to crash to desktop Danger.

points for effort I guess but the port's still a wee bit buggy as well as still having loving ridiculous load times

RAID MODE CRASHES BECAUSE YOU HAVE TOO MANY FRIENDS
If you have over 99 Steam friends you get the deploy crash and the uploading hang.
The PC testing never accounted for this scenario.
The same problem that PS Tetris game had.

The AK is in the house next to the bar. The one with a ladder to the roof.

I managed to miss all of those weapons in my first Survival run. Even the SMG. Didn't fare too well in the last part with just a pistol and a shotgun, ran out of ammo with like 2 enemies left. :v:

Is this poo poo for real? This seems like it should be a simple fix. Every time I play raid I forget I'm not in offline mode and have to go through the "crash on deploying, reboot in offline mode" process.

I'm too stupid to learn to start it in offline mode and have gone through this like two dozen times over the last couple of weeks.

Those may be for the daily missions in Raid Mode, not DLC. I tried playing the daily mission yesterday as Gina and got my rear end kicked, but it was aboard that airplane in the second screenshot. It's the cockpit area from Leon's game in RE6.

As I am a Dude Who Writes About Video Games, I had to get a ludicrously powerful PC a while ago so I could run pre-optimization code for games. The system was built using early builds of Watch_Dogs as a benchmark and it can generally handle whatever I throw at it.

Even it gets a framerate drop around open flames in Raid Mode. This is bizarre.
