The new album is great, by the way. Listen to it. It's not as good as Shrines, but that was a rather singular album.

Three hours might be pushing it. I imagine they'll do a second run on this tour. They were pretty great when I saw them though, Corin Roddick's instrument contraption is a neat experience. The show itself got a little smoky but I credit that to poor ventilation in the venue. They played all of Shrines since that's all they had to go with, but it was worth it.

Let me start off with a basket of chips. Then move on to the pollo asado taco.

I thought the first song they released https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iw_F3tzI3NM was better than those two. But Blowtorch is still pretty good. It seems like they're on autopilot mode, but eh, I've always liked what they do so I'm sure I'll enjoy the album later this month.

I'm really excited about this. I like Franz Ferdinand a lot, even if they obviously have had one of the biggest post-debut dropoffs of any band out there (that last album was, well, not exactly memorable in any way), and I like Sparks a lot, so I hope this results in something cool+unique for both bands. Also, I really want them to announce some US dates in addition to their massive European tour, because what the gently caress

Yeah, I came here to post her new track. It's an unfinished (though reasonably polished) demo from early 2013, but I could have believed it was more recent than that:

Also there's a new St Vincent track, which is nice. A cool day for surprise, low-key music releases http://pitchfork.com/news/58251-st-vincent-shares-teenage-talk-written-for-hbos-girls/

That's a real bummer :( He's made a lot of loving amazing music over the years, but at the same time, yeah, that is the mature thing to do I guess. I guess that means he won't be on the upcoming Team Sleep album? Or maybe he recorded stuff for it already? Although I don't think he was even a core member around the time the first album was recorded, he just did guest vocals on a handful of their tracks, so maybe he won't be on this one at all.

Dude, awesome, thanks for the heads up. This one seems pretty solid, though it didn't immediately register as "really good" for me. But the songs from the last album took a while to grow on me, too.

(I actually ended up quite liking There is No Enemy -- You in Reverse was the only album of theirs that didn't land for me.)

It was the exact opposite for me haha. I loved You In Reverse but There Is No Enemy never did much for me. I never felt the desire to listen to that album all the way through more than like once or twice.

BTS has probably recorded some of my favorite music of all time, though. And I'm seeing them live for the third time in May.

No idea where to post this (I guess it would also be in a world music thread?) but Yonatan Gat opened the Of Montreal show I saw tonight, and totally blew me away. His new album's streaming on Bandcamp; this track in particular is kickass: http://yonatangat.bandcamp.com/track/north-to-south

He and his band (a bassist and a drummer) were set up in a little circle in the middle of the general audience floor, which is a pretty cool way to do a concert! Smart move for an opener that is so different musically from the main act, definitely makes it look more like a spectacle. Was fun to watch people slowly figure out how the heck to groove to it

Ugh, I'm 21 and that crowd made me feel old. Bunch of NYU kids who'd barely drank in their lives falling all over the place. Also the first time I've ever seen someone get ejected from a venue for being too drunk.

I think there needs to be more focus on African bands. We tend to ignore the continent way too much and there's always been incredibly brilliant music coming from there. It's a real shame.

Right! I've been into samba for a long time, but had no idea until a couple of years ago that Angola had a very similar parallel musical movement called semba (e.g., Bonga up there). It was like discovering that one of my favorite genres had doubled in size and gained a new flavor overnight!

I saw TV on the Radio last night at the Granada in Dallas. I based the ticket purchase off of Seeds and "Staring at the Sun" which I really enjoyed and got a lot of radio play when I was in high school. I have to say this was probably the first concert I've ever been to that I was a little disappointed in. Their album music generally speaking has a lot of dynamic contrast, and apart from one or two songs the band was just loud the entire time (both in terms of SPL and dynamics, my hearing still hasn't quite returned to normal). Even listening to the album after I got back, it seemed like this was the case. This is the second band I've seen at that venue (the other being Death from Above 1979) both were like that though, it might just be an issue with the sound setup that being said being loud and in your face is much more of DFA's style where as that isn't really the case with TVOTR. Careful You Happy Idiot and Staring at the Sun were the only real highlights for me. I've always enjoyed the first one, and the last two were fun dance songs. Some pictures below:

The opening act was nostalghia who sounded like what I'd imagine a gothic rock band fronted by Bjork would be. Her outfit was really cute if nothing else, even if at times it reminded me of someone's cosplay especially with the virgin mary on her crotch. The music as a whole wasn't really to my taste but they had a cello player instead of a guitarist so that was different.

Here's TVOTR proper, I usually don't get many pictures as I don't like being "that guy" who watches the show from behind their phone the entire time so of the 5-6 I'll actually take only one or two will be in focus. Their singer was very animated, though I wouldn't say he interacted with the crowd much. This is the first official stop on their tour so hopefully if anyone else is seeing them they'll do a better show.

I saw TVotR last weekend at a festival and they were just okay. They played Wolf Like Me and Happy Idiot, which was all I was really seeing them for anyway, so I was happy about that. But they sounded fairly lifeless throughout the entire set. There wasn't as much of a crowd for them either, since they played in the afternoon instead of at night.

That was my first time seeing them (although they first popped on my radar in like 2006), but I probably wouldn't go see them again.

Now, Death From Above 1979, I saw them at a different festival last year and they loving killed it. I loved that show. In fact it made me appreciate The Physical World even more after seeing that.

DFA was amazing. I'm going to see Sleater Kinney at that same venue in April and hope it'll be like that too. I actually bought some fancy concert earplugs for louder shows after I saw DFA for the first time live and couldn't hear for 2-3 days afterwards (I go to metal shows as well) but, didn't think I'd need them for TVOTR so I didn't wear them.
