Ok but even from 2010 on how does run the jewels stack up

The first RTJ was a pretty big deal, i'd say it lands somewhere in the upper middle of the pack of great releases. It will age well and can easily be pointed to for a great moment in the decades history. The second one was good as well but didn't have the kind of out of nowhere appeal that the first one did, it showcases more of Mike's lyrical prowess and also the fact that El-P is pretty outclasses on every track he raps on. Could have done without most of the El-P sections but a solid release none the less.

I credit Charles Hamilton for single-handedly getting me back into hiphop and giving younger artists a chance.
He has better songs but this is the song that got it all started for me.

I love Charles so much and I'm glad he's back, but it'll be interesting to see if he will cross over into mainstream this time. He's such a weird artist that I'd be suprised. Here's his newest single, featuring... Rita Ora?

Big Krit can actually rap though, he didn't do well with Cadillactica but I have a feeling he will be making a really great work soon. I'm not even huge on down south artists too but he can rhyme.

El-P just feels out of place when he's rapping, something like if DJ Khaled started spitting. Remember when Dame Dash rapped on Champions? It feels like that.

I agree about el-p but this statement sums up krit's entire rap career thus far -

fwiw i think el-p and big krit are both ok at rapping (always tolerable, never necessary nor would be missed on a track). on rtj1 i felt like el-p really stepped it up but then on rtj2 mike is still spitting some great poo poo when el-p comes in like "you can all run backwards naked through a field of dicks!"

I think that Krit has more ability than he shows at times, Mt. Olympus was my favorite track of last year and he really goes IN. He had a track with Logic recently and held his own, even though Logic could probably be considered one of the most raw talented rappers coming up.

Yeah, I didn't like much of El-P's rapping on RTJ2 at all and it's one of the reasons I very much prefer RTJ1 over it.

while i generally agree, that line is GOAT

RTJ1 was rad, but I'm biased by 1) seeing them live and 2) drinking like a thousand beers at the show

I've never been able to take El-P seriously because my brain has merged him together with Bill Burr and therefor RTJ to me is what him and Huell were up to between scenes of Breaking Bad.

Even though I've just invalidated all my opinions I want to object to the idea that he is a 'great producer, ok rapper' as I don't really know that he produces all that well. I really like Run2 but it was in spite of, not because of the pretty puerile production he delivered. He has a real over-reliance on effects that were only impressive to eighth graders in the eighties. I will like Mike could have laid down those tracks acoustic and they would have been just as good, let alone what would have happened if someone else with real talent got involved.

I don't really know, something about El's accent I would guess. When he's rapping it sort of turns from Brooklyn into Mass. Plus, they're both coarse, uppity white guys?

Look, it's not really a defensible position, it's just what happens when I listen.

This only makes the album better. I demand a music video in which they are the ones mouthing the lyrics.
