When I bought Project Pat's Ghetty Green it had a huge sticker over the robbery stuff and said it was banned in the south. I bought it from a Sam Goody in Texas, didn't even have my parents' permission. Savage.

Non-sequitur, Live from the Danger Room has some cool songs on it. I wrote it off p hard when it came out.

According to some MTV interview Kendrick did the original title for TPaB was "Tu Pimp a Caterpillar"

quote:

That was the original name and they caught it because the abbreviation was Tupac, Tu-P-A-C. ... Me changing it to Butterfly, I just really wanted to show the brightness of life and the word "pimp" has so much aggression, and that represents several things. For me, it represents using my celebrity for good. Another reason is, not being pimped by the industry through my celebrity.

Echoing a few pages back, the new Billy Woods is good. Kind of a weird listen as it's 24 tracks but all of them are short (i think someone compared it to Madvillainy? But it's much darker). Check it out if you still haven't been convinced of his awesomeness.

I would have liked that title much much more and I would have been so much better prepared for what I ended up hearing.

I listened to Kendrick's interview on Ebro in the Morning and it was a pretty good insight into how he went about crafting his albums and it made me have a better respect and appreciation for the finished product. Rosenberg was a huge STAN as usual, and Ebro was much softer on the album than I thought he would have been. I really liked his story about Prince coming and vibing with him, I can understand some of the decisions he made considering who he had coming into the studio and dropping knowledge.

Full interview here, it's a good watch : http://rapradar.com/2015/03/31/kendrick-lamar-on-ebro-in-the-morning/

Thanks for reminding me to buy this. Listening now a few tracks in and it's what I expect out of him: great lyricism, his unique (and often varying) flow, and good production with a sort of muted dreamy feel to it.

I shot the Madvillainy comparison. The samples on this thing are great, too. The Wire, Willy Wonka, and the audio book version of Cormac Mccarthy's Blood Meridian are all on the CD at some point. The track RPMs is kind of amazing.

Not that surprised. TPAB is basically a checklist of things music critics cream over, but without the whole "douchebag" factor that makes Kanye's work interesting and controversial

Words cannot describe just how terrible Vietnamese are.

I honestly only listened to Section.80 last week just after TPAB and this track is on constant repeat cause its so goddamn good. Album was the poo poo too, and more enjoyable than TPAB to listen to from start to finish.

Listening to Section.80 after TPAB made me appreciate the latter more too though I still feel TPAB was missing some TDE features.

Was it too much to ask for another Ab-Soul outro, which imo could work on TPAB, or even Isaiah Rashad?
