Aren't there any Japanese sites that email you the codes providing you have a Japanese address? I could have sworn Sofmap or someone did that.

The few I have looked into have a similar or worse markup than the English language sites we use. Amazon.jp sells codes too but like, 10k yen for 13k yen.

For actual awesome import news on PSN, SPELUNKER Z IS OUT YOU GUYS!

1-5 serve as a tutorial, menus (with a bit of a tuturial) open up afterward, very easy to get into and understand but most importantly fun and feeling right. Six player co-op, lots of laughs and smiles. It is F2P but mainly for visuals and mid-mission continues, you have free continues in the tutorial stages, you can definitely enjoy it without paying a single yen.

Direct link to Spleunker Z in webstore. Small warning: you have to download the main game at 2.7 GB + the game update at another 2.7 GB. :reject: I hate when new games do this!

Also, another round of PS2 Archive games went up this week:

ADK Tamashii ¥1,200 (5-game compilation, more details)

The King of Fighters 2000 ¥1,000

Metal Slug 5 ¥1,000

—どこでもいっしょ— 私なえほん / Doko Demo Issyo: My Picture Book ¥1,234 (a virtual picture book :wtf:, more details)

Oh gently caress it I'll just pester a friend in Japan once I really need to.

Also why does Disgaea 5 come out the same week as Bloodborne, that seems like a terrible idea.

Same reason so much other stuff is out the same day - it's the last Thursday of the financial year for a lot of companies.

Bloodborne was originally coming out in February, remember, and got pushed back. Disgaea 5 had that date first.

The question is how or if we can register a Chinese account without issue.

e: We can! Games are locked to the Chinese account no matter what apparently

This is wrong, I was able to play a match with my US account no problem. Pretty laggy for me.

If you're attempting to play, here's what I figured out about the in-game controls:

Dpad Up opens the shop.
Dpad Down teleports to base.
Cross/Circle/Square/Triangle sets your current skill.
R2+Cross/Circle/Square/Triangle upgrades that skill.
R2 uses default attack (or skill if set).
Touchpad opens scoreboard.

If I were to make a Chinese account I would very definitely only fund it with prepaid codes sent to a misattributable email address and consider only ever connecting to it over a VPN. Not that anyone is above monitoring the internet these days, but China has always been a world leader in that sport.

I'm having trouble figuring this out. I'm all the way at the purchase confirmation screen and I can not see any indication that this isn't a normal physical shipment. If it was it would go to my Tenso.com box, which would mean another 1500 yen or something to ship to me, which would remove any benefit to this method.

I've tried so many different ways to get various kinds of Japan internet money from outside of Japan without going through a middleman and all but one have ended in failure. It's clearly not a thing Japan in general wants to do at all.

I never did figure out if Softmap sends codes digitally, and I guess Megalixir isn't coming back, so I got PSN money from playasia like usual. Where's Japan on the drat digital preorders/preloads anyway? I want to play EDF4.1 as soon as I can.

The Japan store did have some games up for pre-order with pre-load, such as Bloodborne, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, and Dragon Quest Heroes. They were mixed in along with the new releases instead of being in a separate section, though. I don't believe any game is up for pre-order now.

The most ridiculous part was that they had some games on a "play the game at midnight!" promotion, which was perfect in the UK for being ready just as I came home from work on the Wednesday. That didn't even cover all the preorders available though! I tried to start up Disgaea 5 last week and it still had the timer running as everything outside of that promotion unlocked at 7am JST like normal. They just can't make up their mind, while even Nintendo update their store at midnight.

If you could confirm that EDF is as buttery smooth as I am hoping it is, it would be helpful. I'm debating if I want to wait for the inevitable(?) English release in 6-12 months, or just bumble my way through the Japanese weapon descriptions.

Did you have it fully installed? I tried it while installing (the part install lets you play the first mission only) and there's plenty of sub-60 framerates and maybe even some tearing. Dropping an artillery grenade as the air raider dropped the framerate well below 30. Blowing up tall buildings really harms the framerate. It's more the "slowdown for effect" drop than the "makes game unplayable" that you often got on PS3.

Did you manage to get the NPC soldiers to sing with you?

Yeah, it's all the way installed, and I haven't seen any slowdown or frame rate drops. I have a hard time thinking it's related though.

No, I was too busy singing with other players online.

Could be a single player versus online thing then. In any case it runs better than the previous best-running EDF anyway and to be honest if it has stayed at a high framerate during the artillery firestorm I would have been a bit disappointed. They've definitely fixed it where it counts, what with the rag doll recovery and faster loading.

They aren't that fast (so be prepared to wait a day after your order), but the price is okay (10% markup on the 10000 Yen cards, 13% on the 5000 Yen ones).

Just as a side note, Solaris Japan is a pretty awesome store for ordering physical games from too, particularly if you're in Europe. They happily let you tell them what to write on the Customs declaration to avoid extortionate import taxes. I ordered from them recently and the cheapest shipping method got my games to me in 5 days too which is massively better than Play-Asia.

There's a mode that restructures the game to make it play more like Valken, at least. Enemy spawns are less insane and makes the missions more linear instead of objective based. Like on level 1 in arcade mode the battleship just spawns when you get to the end of the level and you have a straight up bossfight instead of being a timer based thing. Its a really good port IMO, from the same dudes that made the Assault Suits tribute game Gunhound.
