I'm fine with two pseudogiants at the same time, because they make me use tactics and poo poo.

It's one of very few places in CoP where you feel truly alone. Every other major building was either a hub or a set piece and it really took away from the game's creep factor.

Yeah Jupiter in the original CoP is probably my favourite location along with the vines in Pripyat for that exact reason. I only wish it was a little harder to navigate anomaly wise with more indoor traps and a sort of jungle gym approach to getting around, like the sarcophagus in SoC but with more than just the teleports.

The Jupiter Plant is very much like the Shalebridge Cradle: An incredibly foreboding place that has a really creepy atmosphere but there's nothing really there, just paranoia and rumours

Maybe it's just me, but I always enjoyed being in these "empty" places and suddenly spotting a few stalkers or bandits sitting around a campfire or something like that. I guess I enjoy the idea of the Zone being a little more populated than it realistically would or should be. Running long stretches and not seeing any human AI has always seemed a little boring to me I suppose.

I think it comes down to most of the gameplay mechanics come down to interactions with the AI in various ways so with no AI you only have the zone, and while the zone is always this omnipresent threat its also one of the most trivial unless you heavily mod the game so you actually fear radiation and anomalies. Exploring is fun but especially in CoP there can be very little to see and its almost themepark style design concentrates most interesting stuff in small clumps.

The Zone is only trivial in Call of Pripyat because you're almost never out of sight of a main hub. If you run into trouble in Yanov or Zaton, outside of a handful of locations like the Factory, you're at most a five-minute jog from the station or the Skadovsk and, provided you stuck to the roads, only very rarely would there be anything even remotely dangerous between you and safety. Outside of blowouts, any sort of real danger was heavily telegraphed and usually limited to pre-defined areas and missions. In Shadow of Chernobyl, it was very easy to get yourself cut off from safety. Yantar and the Red Forest had two of the most hostile areas in the game between them and safety, and even places like the Garbage and Dark Valley were big enough and remote enough that a single randomly-spawned pack of dogs could be the difference between making it back to Sidorovich and bleeding out before you reach the Cordon.

Ugh, so I hope I'm not making GBS threads up the thread too much by constant bug reporting but... I've got another CTD in Countryside (Lost Alpha, Ddraig's mod patched) while approaching the old church to find the guy that knows another entrance to X16. Checked the log this time and found this at the bottom: FATAL ERROR [error]Expression : fatal error [error]Function : CModelPool::Instance_Load [error]File : ..\xrRender\ModelPool.cpp [error]Line : 117 [error]Description : <no expression> [error]Arguments : Can't find model file 'actors\unic\stalker_drunk.ogf'. Also I might add since I assume it's a Ddraig added item, the CYSTA Exosuit has no textures when being worn(in 3rd person view). Also, I love you.

Forgot to the include the model file/textures. I've got a quick fix for that. I'm not sure which exoskeleton you're talking about as I can't remember what the hell I added for the most part I'll be able to get the correct texture and add that to the fix too if I know which one it is.

Xray engine 2.0 got leaked online (can't give source...or can I?) It was meant for Stalker 2 before it got cancelled. You can tell it got cancelled early in the development process as the code for the new engine is only partly there (however is much tidier than Xray 1.6). From what I can tell they were developing it for Xbox360, PS3, and PC (DX-11 only it looks like). Unfortunately nothing worth salvaging to extend Xray 1.6 from it.

So... got another one! Happens about two seconds after loading into X16 every time. FATAL ERROR [error]Expression : fatal error [error]Function : CInifile::r_section [error]File : Xr_ini.cpp [error]Line : 499 [error]Description : <no expression> [error]Arguments : Can't open section 'bolt_anim_sci(det_artefact_none)' File doesn't look familiar though, could this be a vanilla bug?

Outside of blowouts, any sort of real danger was heavily telegraphed and usually limited to pre-defined areas and missions. You're absolutely right, but I think the issue isn't the inhabitants of the zone, but the zone itself. Removing the scattered smaller anomalies from SoC was a poor choice because you can sprint everywhere with no drawback, and since the economy in vanilla is so easy you'll almost never find yourself artifact hunting. STALKERs are supposed to be slav '49ers, but outside of Les Miserables I can count on one hand the number of times I got caught in an anomaly when a blowout started. I don't mind a desolate zone (it's my favorite part of CoP), but the world itself either isn't dangerous enough, or doesn't force you into the dangerous parts enough to feel like you're ever in any real danger.

I probably won't revisit this until after the Developer's Cut is released because it's sort of apparent a lot of the engine stuff in LA is wonky, to the point where some basic elements just flat out don't work (such as setting weather effects)

Am I alone for thinking that a version of LA without the story would be great? Less Illuminati, more "gently caress, let's go wander east for a good while and see what there is." More of a free roam thing, without having to beat the game first. This is also why I still haven't finished Fallout 3. I just keep getting distracted by new poo poo.

I started playing LA, excited at the potential for fresh experiences, saw the opening cutscene and started to get worried. It went downhill from there. I couldn't stomach it for very long, the whole draw with Stalker for me is immersion and LA shits all over it with its amateurish and cringeworthy presentation.

Call of Chernobyl is going to be sweet. Probably just as sweet, if not more so, than the new OGSE version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEEcCWgpS4c Stalkers keep running away from the guns and I don't know why. Probably going to change that Flash effect too, or at least the sound.

Another crash(Lost Alpha, Ddraigs mod) it seems is caused by controllers, and only when they detect/try to attack me. In other words, if I see them and they can't see me, everything is fine and I kill them from afar no problem. If they see me and begin to engage me however, the game crashes without generating an error report, it also doesn't seem to say anything about it in the logs either. Most notably this has occured in x16 when you have to shut off the giant brain, and Radar after finding Nomad's shack.
