This series was good. Minor thoughts that have stuck with me:

I am SO loving GLAD they didn't fridge Karen. I was totally expecting them to, from about halfway through that episode. She tells Foggy and Matt to get their poo poo together and has a conversation with Ben that just reeked of I'm-about-to-get-offed (even included a 'I'll call you in the morning,' which is almost as bad as being 3 days from retirement.) I was convinced she was about to bite it and ready to get really mad that one of the only women in the show was about to be dropped off a cliff to get Matt and Foggy to start talking again. Holy hell was I relieved when she didn't. I'm still a bit disappointed with her arc as a whole -- I wanted a flashback or two and a bit more meat to her motivations -- but at least she didn't get fridged.

Series could use some more ladies around in general. Basically all the villain NPC's are dudes, and I guess it makes sense for street toughs but were there any female cops? I think one got snipered but I dunno if any had a single line. Elektra will help with this. At least the ones they did have were all pretty drat competent -- well, the lawyer-lady whose name I forget is mainly good at stealing files without getting noticed and they don't have much of her on-the-job doing lawyer stuff, but if she's made partner you can assume she knows what she's doing. Madame Gao was great too but they had to keep her totally enigmatic so she's less a character and more a force of nature.

The fights fell off a lot in the back half. Still good, but the one in episode 2 was definitely the highlight. Daredevil flips too much. Got distracting by the end. Might be a symptom of marathoning. I think there's 2 parts -- one with the Russian in the tunnels and one in the last episode by the truck -- where he defeats a full-auto automatic weapon by flipping directly through the line of fire. And when he corners Fisk in the alley he FLIPS into place before posing. I dunno.

As far as Karen goes 1x13+comics In the comics she moves out to start an acting career, gets addicted to heroin, becomes a porn star to keep getting fixes, and sells out Daredevil's identity to get another hit, gets convinced she's HIV positive, and then gets killed. I REALLY hope they don't do any bullshit like that to her character, but I have this terrible feeling they might fridge her in Season 2 because it's a 'defining aspect' of Daredevil or something to have all his girlfriends evil/crazy/dead. Still, by making her and foggy be a thing instead of him, maybe she might get spared.

I had that weird dream again.
The series was good overall.

1x13
It started really strong and I was hooked until the Russian sub-plot was concluded. After that I felt the series kind of wound down a bit, got slower with less fights and was much less intense, though it still earned the ending and the final confrontation.

My highlight for the series is the same as many but drat that hallway fight at the end of episode 2 was just so good. So good that nothing ever really topped it for me, though Matt's scuffle with the cops when he rescues Vladimir and his fight with Nobu certainly came close. The low point for me has to be that awkward, silly daylight run across the rooftops Matt does in his suit when he's trailing the blind guy to Gao's warehouse. Maybe its just me, but I can't stand when free-runners/parkour people or whatever you want to call them do those goofy looking unnecessary flips over really low ledges.

One thing I found odd about the series is that I sympathized so much more with some of the villains than I did the good guys: I felt nothing when Elena and Ben bit the dust but was shocked and saddened when Anatoly, Vladimir and Wesley went. Especially Wesley, he was one of favourite characters. Also Rosario Dawson needed much more screentime, she was great.

Regarding Karen, I really liked that her and Matt never got together, even though she was quite clearly interested (as she was about to subject poor Foggy to a hand feels face moment before they nearly got blown up).

Also I loved the show's approach to all the Asian influence, especially the teasing of the Chaste and the Hand which makes me loving pumped for Iron Fist.

One more thing can anyone with comic book knowledge please explain what the gently caress the "Black Sky" kid was? Because I have no clue.

It's set up for future things, but only kinda there's some MAGIC NINJA WAR poo poo that's been going on int the background of the comics for 20 years and Stick, the dude in the red ninja pants, and Black Sky were all setting that up. It's them setting up the Hand, much like Gao is them setting up some Iron Fist tie in stuff

Like every time Ben went to his car they made it look like he was going to get killed. There were like 3 or 4 times I was convinced there was someone in the back seat, a guy behind him with a gun, or a car bombing was imminent. Hell in 12 when he walked into his house there were like 4 or 5, oh poo poo, this is where Fisk kills him moments before he sat down at the computer. Which actually made the Fisk in the corner reveal somewhat surprising because they'd teased his imminent death so many times.

The two Ls in "Hell" look different to me, very very minimally so, but not exactly the same, the bottom line on the second L is slightly shorter and straighter. The Es in "Hell" and "New" are slightly different in the same way. And the N in "Grid Plan" is a bit thinner than the N in "Kitchen". Maybe it's a capital/lowercase thing, but I dunno, some people have really odd handwriting.

They really nail the fighting style Daredevil has. In the comics they mention how he fights like a brawler or a boxer, but is also quick and ninja-like, and I'm very impressed with how that translated into this show.

I mean, hearing that this serves as an origin story for both Daredevil and the Kingpin already makes me wary about it!.

I actually liked Ben a lot and was sad when he died, I found him more compelling as the intrepid journalist than any of the many House of Cards journalists and better as a member of a dying industry than the boring journalists in The Wire season 5. Though I agree with your comment about Vladimir and Wesley; both were quite typical characters but the series made them if not sympathethic, at least interesting enough to make their mark.

Regarding Karen, I liked that she was never reduced to "romantic interest" for Matt or Foggy; I guess next time we see Matt they'll be dating or something but I was glad she wasn't that in this season.

Also, has Marvel said anything about second seasons for its Netflix shows? I'm not gonna be able to wait until after Defenders to see Matt again and I've already read all the Daredevill comics I have!

It's an origin story in the sense that Batman (1989) is. Not just origin + third act. Their origin stories are more about solidifying their already existing characters.

The biggest difference and probably the greatest strength of the show is that Daredevil is an actual underdog, and the show has the time to explore that.

It's not an origin story in the sense like Spider-man is gluing lamps to his face and swinging into buildings.

it's an origin of the superhero Daredevil from the city's view. Both DD and Kingpin are somewhat established in their routines and poo poo already, it's just an earlier time. Think of it like a Year Two, origin story, not an 0-day origin story. They're both shaped by events in this series that would lead them to being the Comic Book versions.

Yeah, there's some stuff spliced in about how exactly he got to the point of masking up and punching dudes in the head and shoulder area, but it feels natural and more about establishing his motivation and character than expositing at you.

And the tone is really god drat far from any of the other Marvel stuff in a really good way. It's got a decent bit of interconnecting plots coming together and it's willing to get much more brutal. Even stuff like Winter Soldier tried to keep things a little bit family-friendly, this show definitely does not. I'm not squeamish at all and there were some scenes that had me all :stare:.

They could bring him back and use him in the other series. It depends on when they're set. For instance what if all four series happen around the same time so over the few months that Daredevil played out Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are doing their thing and run into Ven along the way. Iron Fist seems like it's going to happen after Daredevil though since all the references to his stuff, at least to me, made it seem like the selection hadn't happened yet.
