That would be why. The third-party contractor built the site in AngularJS to handle translations depending on your browser's language (I don't know why), so it requires JavaScript. I could rewrite it, but we have a new site launching at midnight on Tuesday, so it's not worth it.

Notorious b.s.d. posted:why is it a desktop and not a netbook? Laptops / netbooks didn't do well in R&D and user testing. Crappy keyboards / touchpads / screens meant the computers felt much harder to use for the experienced user, even with the same OS. Users told us they would use it plugged into a wall anyway. They don't have a no reason to carry a laptop around. Notorious b.s.d. posted:what is it good for without internet access? i'm not being snarky, i really want to know what the intended purpose is It comes preloaded with tons of apps that have content from Wikipedia and WikiHow, for education, games and other things. There's plenty more coming with that plan ("offline internet"), but I can't talk about it quite yet. Notorious b.s.d. posted:why did the intel version come out first Ease of manufacturing, and it takes less R&D. Notorious b.s.d. posted:and why bother with an ARM model? Price. (guess which word will stick with the reader) The entire team has been working on this copy for two weeks, me included. There's bound to be plenty of mistakes that sometimes slip through. We're hoping to let it get across that it's quite inexpensive at $169, but it's a luxurious computer, it's not OLPC in quality.

does the non-wifi unit just have an unpopulated mini-pcie slot or is the wireless gear actually soldered onto the board in the higher-end models?

# ? Apr 14, 2015 16:07 |

The antenna slot is just unpopulated. It actually really is $20 on the BOM, which is why we offer a version without it.

Suspicious Dish posted:From our marketing person: "The website actually says: Plastic, packaging and pixels are cheap. I need more context for this comment to answer" you're tying "cheap" into the identity of the product . the product is made of plastic, packaging, and pixels. and that composition is "cheap." "cheap" is a word meaning both inexpensive and poor quality, in combination. it carries a negative connotation in all but the most informal contexts your advertising is too formal to joke about "cheap"
