:siren: Grand Final YouTube Stream :siren:

It's time to drink heavily, swear at the national juries and watch Cyprus giving 12 points to Greece! Also San Marino has finally found
someone other than Valentina Monetta.

This year we're off to Vienna after Conchita Wurst won with Rise Like a Phoenix, much to the dismay of Russia and Belarus.

This will be the second time that Austria hosts the contest after holding its 1967 edition also in Vienna.

40 countries will participate this year for the chance at victory and opportunity to host next year's event.

This year's contest takes place the week of 18 May. Semi-Final 1 is on 19 May, Semi-Final 2 is on 21 May and the
Grand Final is on 23 May.

The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the longest running television shows in the world. It was on the 24th of May,
in 1956, that Europe saw the first ever Eurovision Song Contest. After 56 runnings, the contest is one of the most
typical European traditions.

Participating countries submit an entry to represent their nation. Each Show is a state-of-the-art, world-class
television production and consists chiefly of successive live televised performances of songs by artists entered by the
Participating Broadcasters to represent their countries. Each song which competes in the ESC shall be selected through
a national selection to be organized by each Participating Broadcaster.

Viewers in the countries of the Participating Broadcasters are invited to vote for their favourite songs (without the
possibility of voting for the song representing their own country) by means of televoting, which shall be implemented
in all the countries of the Participating Broadcasters. In both Semi-Finals and in the Final, the final scores of the
songs in each country shall be calculated on the basis of both the results of televoting and the National Jury's vote.

Once all the songs have been performed, the results shall be announced. In each Semi-Final, the ten songs which
have received the highest number of points from the combination of the televoting and jury points shall be selected
for the Final.

Since 2008, the Eurovision Song Contest consists of three live shows, aired prime-time to millions of homes
across Europe. During two Semi-Finals, viewers and juries across Europe determine which countries will be represented
in the Final.

Some famous artists have gotten their start in the ESC, such as Celine Dion and ABBA. Why we actually care is this
contest gives life to performances that can only be described as Eurovision such as the ones mentioned below
(though there are many others as well.)

On 6 August 2014, Austrian public broadcaster ORF announced that it had chosen Vienna as the host city for the 2015 contest.
The contest will be held at the Wiener Stadthalle, which has an overall capacity of approximately 16,000 people.

I don't know much else about Austria to be honest. :effort: It'll be my first time visiting.

19 May. Voting open to participating countries plus Australia, Austria, France, and Spain.

The top 10 countries from the semi-finals will join Austria, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK in
the Grand Final. The big 5 get in the final automatically because they bankroll a large portion of the costs of the
event, so good on them! As for Australia why the hell not. Could you imagine if the UK had to qualify with Electro Velvet
like everyone else? It happens 23 May.

This year we say goodbye to Ukraine. The country withdrew from the contest due to well, you know. However on the bright side
this year we
see the return of Cyprus, Serbia, and the Czech Republic. Welcome back!

Israel is a member of the EBU. :dealwithit:

Australia? :iiam: On 10 Feb the EBU announced that it had invited Australia to participate in the finals of the contest, represented
by SBS — a long-time broadcaster of the ESC in the country. If Australia wins, it will be able to return for the 2016 edition, which
would be organised by SBS but held in a European host city of its choice.

Some are classics, some are new and take us by surprise. Some don't make it because of the ~National Jury~!
We look back at some of the best Eurovision has to offer. (2014 had nothing notable.)

Love a bit of Eurovision!
I did this last year, drew all the acts as they were playing and only let myself draw them as they were on, I had to stop when they did. It was flipping hard.

Israel's participation always confused me - if being an EBU member is the only barrier to entry then why not let Japan in?

Also, I hope Australia gets zero votes and never enters again - Eurovision is only fun to watch from a safe, long, distance.

Compulsory for a eurovision thread: Eurovision lost all legitimacy (like the Nobel Peace prize being awarded to Kissinger) when they denied Moldova's shoe-in, definitive winner entry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePdfABKdGRw

Sunstroke Project tried to get the Moldova spot again this year, but lost to a Ukrainian dude who apparently bragged about rigging the televote and jury. Welp.

Is Norway rolling with a another knock-off of whatever Sweden did the year prior? I wish they'd remember that they actually won not long ago with a crazy grinning fiddle playing hobbit. Or go with a black metal act. Or both at once!

Light blue are Associate Members: Any group or organisation member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which provide a radio and/or television service outside of the European Broadcasting Area.

It was also noted by the EBU that any country that is granted Associate Member status does not include any access into the Eurovision system.

Finland of course should come first because I want to see everybody lose out to a bunch of downs kids.
