Old Town Road to EGOT

I wasn't really sold on HEALTH for whatever reason until I heard their Max Payne 3 soundtrack which totally blew me away, and this sounds like more of that kind of stuff, so I'm loving this and very excited for the rest of this album.

S4C just released a documentary about Super Furry Animals, who are about to play their first show in six years in three days. It contains lots of old footage I'd never seen before and does a great job presenting the band's philosophy as well as making you realize just how underrated they are. The band narrates in Welsh, but there are English subtitles.

I kinda prefer the second, but it's a close call. So far, their singles more along the lines of the first than the second.

Mikal Cronin's got a new album out in a couple weeks. Managed to pick up a copy a couple nights ago after seeing him play, and it's excellent. As good as his last album, for sure. Lots of ear worms.

The new Braids album, Deep in the Iris, isn't <completely> my poo poo (the lyrics are sometimes silly), but it's a good listen that I reckon many of you posters will enjoy.

They are opening for Purity Ring I am seeing at the end of May. What kind of music is it?

I meant to post a couple tracks

Kind of in that vein, yeah. Here are my two favorites: "Warm Like Summer" and "Taste"

I saw them open for Wye Oak last year. They played a couple songs off the new album, which is more accessible than their past stuff. The guy with glasses REALLY gets into it, as you'll see next month.

Haha, I was listening to the opening and thinking "this sounds a little Heads-inspired, but not that much," and then the verses hit. Good lord, it'd be a shame if that vocalist was never in a cover band, he's such a dead ringer for David Byrne

Yeah, but a David Byrne impression's not that difficult. Even Brian Eno could do one.

I bought the first Straylight Run album a few weeks ago. I know why emo isn't a mainstream genre anymore. Thankfully nostalgia was enough to save that one.

Ebbs and flows, also, children are what made emo/pop punk big, today would be no different. You are just older and less simple with your music taste.

I don't know about Straylight Run, but i don't think a whole lot of children listened to Braid. I listen to far more emo now than I did as a teenager, because a lot of it is musically really good.

I'm listening now and digging it. Taste and Happy When are absolutely my poo poo. Excited to see them before Purity Ring on the 26th :D

I originally found them through iTunes Radio a few months ago and got Flourish // Perish and I love that whole thing.

I finally got my copy in the mail the other day, along with Flourish and Blue Hawaii which I had been putting off for too long.

Blue Hawaii and and Flourish are excellent, seriously, two of my favorite albums. With that said, I do like Deep in the Iris. Not as good as the other two, but still worth paying money for.

If you like soft meandering pop music with a woman leading the vocals, then you'll like Braids/Blue Hawaii (same people basically).

My trivia team is usually some variation on "Tyronne" after the meme I am sure everyone is familiar with by now.

Last night I made the team name "Tyronne Y Moi" no one got the reference but it made me happy on the inside.

Synthetica was the best Canadian new wave album that never came out in the Eighties. I'm always afraid Metric will lose their love of new wave and try something new. I'm overjoyed if this single means that they haven't.

This is the poo poo. I've been loving Metric for close to a decade now and I'm glad they're still making strong tunes after all this time. I will seriously never get tired of Emily Haines as a vocalist.

I saw Matt & Kim last night, and drat do they put on an energetic and enthusiastic live show.

They are kinda cringey though because a lot of the audience banter was Matt basically saying "KIM HAS A NICE rear end HEY KIM TWERK A BUNCH FOR THE PEOPLE ISNT HER rear end NICE EVERYONE?"
