SPOILER ALERT! The third game is a prequel. Also the best one. All I really remember from MGS1 was dying. A lot. I was really bad at this game. It took MGS2:S to get the hang of the series. Looking forward to 4.

I have been pumped for this since first hearing about your plan to do it, I am 100% on board with this crazy endeavor. Will you be using any of the alternate costumes for MGS1?

Aw, man. This is an LP that I can't follow, since I got the Legacy collection a couple months ago so I could finally play past MGS2 and still haven't opened it.

MGS1 was the primary reason I bought a PS1 and this will be a good LP.

There sure have been a lot of let's play several years worth of games lately, I like it. I like it a lot. Shine on you crazy diamond.

I read somewhere that Otacon and Meryl get new costumes if you beat their endings with the tuxedo, I never tried it myself so I'm not sure if it's true, but I'll try them both at some point. Considering the bullshit I'm doing offscreen to set up for MGS2, this isn't anything major EDIT: Apparently Meryl's other outfit is only in Twin Snakes, and Otacon has no other costume at all, it's just one of those things that immortalizes as truth, like how you could TOTALLY tranq Ocelot after talking to Ames and get his dogtags, you just have to be fast. You should add a rule to drink every time there's a noun-question (metal gear?!, second floor basement?, etc.). I don't think you make it through the first game alive

Yeah these rules seem a bit sparse. Especially since you are by your own admission a hefty Canadian man. Shot of rum every time a character gets an introduction. drink every time the codec points something obvious out. MichaelGreyFox posted:You should add a rule to drink every time there's a noun-question (metal gear?!, second floor basement?, etc.). Just wait until episode three, Grace was a goddamn liar about me beating it without getting a game over. also protip, regardless of height or nationality, don't knock back multiple ciders before doing a drinking game involving rum. I might switch out the rum condition for a beer related one, and then also accept drinking words/conditions from the thread. If you guys haven't noticed, we're basically making this poo poo up as we go along

Additonial drinking rule suggestions: -Drink each time the fourth wall is broken (not including a character telling you to press select or whatever) - you might die at the end of MGS2 though. -Drink for each gratuitous rear end shot.

My drinking condition is go as drunk as Kojima was when he wrote the ending of MGS2. Huffing household cleaners may also be required.

I'm all about this LP. Once upon a time I played a crapton of MGS 1 & 2. I kinda got burnt out somewhere in the middle of 3 and that's kinda where I stopped the series dead. I've never actually seen any of the plot to 4 or Peace Walker or Rising. I know they go in the clear direction Kojima takes everything though, so I can't wait til you get there. You know, I'm not sure if I've ever actually seen that SOCOM conversation between the guards. I always take the top floor vent and see them talking about the Ninja, which is the first place the game makes you realize that not everything is going according to plan.

Peace Walker was really fun, if for nothing else but the fact that it had coop mode that allowed for the use of silly-but-completely-funtional cardboard box tanks.

# ? May 1, 2015 16:14 |
I'm already super familiar with MGS thanks to my own beating of 2 and 3 and Chip's massive LPs of all the other main games and Peace Walker, but I'm still going to try and follow this one. Also 3 is the best.

Oh snap good thing I wasn't planning on monetizing these Bizarrely enough, the two scenes it didn't like were the scene where Snake is in the SDV, and the part where he talks to Octopus right after the sepia-toned flyaround of REX. The rest was fine apparently

In all honesty, Metal Gear Solid hasn't aged that badly for a PS1 game. Obviously it looks terrible by our standards, but the cinematic presentation in the cutscenes and the music still hold up. Likewise, MGS2 and 3 have way better presentation and graphics than a lot of competing games around their time.

At the time that I first played it I found the actual gameplay too simplistic for what I wanted out of a stealth game, which was something that later entries rectified. But there's still a lot of attention to detail even in this game.

Awww yis. I'm really digging the "let's play all of" trend that seems to be sweeping the forum these days. LP needn't die. LP must... evolve (disclaimer: just saw Age of Ultron)

Agreed. This retrospective style really works well with thread-based discussion, allowing the entire series to shine instead of just a highlight.

Aw, man, MGS drinking game. I tried that with a couple of friends, once. Take a shot every time someone mentions nanomachines. (This rule was preemptively waived for anything past the first game) Take a shot every time someone says "Metal Gear". Take a shot every time Snake repeats the previous sentence in the form of a question. It went from "This is boring, I'll just take a drink whenever" to "Holy poo poo, I literally cannot drink fast enough to keep up" in the space of the DARPA chief scene.

Speaking of the drinking game, I've updated the second post with a description of the drinks involved, and I'll be keeping it updated as we go along. We're also going to stick with the normal rules for the next session, but plan to introduce thread decided conditions later on. So far I have a bad feeling about it considering what's already been suggested.

Fist video seems good ill definitely be following this. Just for my own curiosity is'nt there something in the truck outside? or does it not spawn till later? I cant even remember what it was i just have this vague recollection of it and wonder if its correct. Are people allowed to suggest beers?

Let's Play Metal Gear Solid Episode 2 - Tumbling Down Fun facts for this episode: -If you do manage to beat the combat segment with Meryl unarmed, Snake automatically scoots over to the socom and picks it up. Also note that Meryl shits on us later for being a gunless dumbass when we met -When Baker mentions Jim, he's referring to Jim Houseman, the secretary of defense. You may remember him as the total prick who's technically leading the mission, despite his only active input being sending a plane to nuke you. -The line Ocelot was saying before I shot him in the rear end was "I love to reload during a battle, There's nothing like the feeling of slamming a long silver bullet into a well greased chamber". If it weren't for the torture fetish and the implied rapes, Ocelot would easily be my favourite character. -You can call Campbell after speaking to Meryl and tell him she's okay. He's super relieved. I did it off screen between episodes though, so whoops.

The first time I played this game I got stuck because it never occurred to me that they were talking about the actual game's CD case, which was made even more confusing because Baker gives you an optical disc. It was a while before I could contact Meryl because I was a young kid who didn't understand what the fourth wall was. Also I had no idea this game even had alternate dialogue and scenes depending on whether you grabbed the SOCOM, that was a new one for me.

I had to look up online what the frequency was when I first played, I think I tried calling everyone and couldn't figure out how to get it, not sure if they mention the cd-case.

I had a similar experience to Danaru in that I rented the game and it came in a flimsy plastic store box with a printed label on it, and they too added Meryl's frequency as a PS to the game description on the back with zero fanfare. Also, I now seem to recall fooling around and not grabbing the socom to see how far I could get after watching this and I want to say it keeps pulling the "appears right in front of you where it normally doesn't" thing it did here until you're forced to grab it in Ocelot's room because you can't beat him any other way.

Considering I played the game in the winter of 2009 or so, a lot of the weird poo poo that people talked about with MGS I had absorbed through osmosis and pretty much knew what was required with the "code on the back of the case" deal. Funny thing, the reason for why I started playing the game then was that I was taking Biology in high school and we were talking about genetics, and like everything else in this series, the theme of "genes" in MGS1 was something I had heard about and decided to give it a shot based on that. Was especially hilarious when Liquid started talking it up near the end despite getting the idea of dominant and recessive genes loving wrong. But hey, could have been worse. I could have played Parasite Eve instead...
