In order not to confuse the Worst Cover Song thread by turning it around, I figured we could use a thread for good (or "good") covers.

One of my favorite hidden gem covers is Luna's take on "Sweet Child of Mine":

Yo La Tengo have two whole albums of (good) covers, but I'm particularly partial to their take on "Sweet Dreams":

You wanna save this place, right? And I want to destroy it. Brick by hypocritical brick.
If you can call an almost complete reinterpretation a cover, I'd like to offer up Iron Man by The Bad Plus.

If not, then almost everything involving Mike Massé, particularly performances like the following few:

Yes, he is aware he looks like Louis CK.

This is really old, right? I seem to remember hearing it about 6 years ago and yes, it is actually quite good.

Here is Arab Strap making it sound like they wrote the song, or should have done:

This owns.

The Estonian early music group Rondellus did a great album called Sabbatum: A Medieval Tribute to Black Sabbath. I especially enjoy the rendition of "A National Acrobat" as "Funambulus domesticus."

Oh I almost forgot- while we're talking about Sabbath covers, Brownout did an album of latin funk renditions: https://brownout.bandcamp.com/album/brownout-presents-brown-sabbath

The Stooges, covering Dylan's Ballad of Hollis Brown. They nail the song so hard. It's just a fierce, steady driving beat and these almost hollow guitar sounds. It completely gets the desperate feel of the song:

Roky Erickson, covering Heroin by the Velvet Underground. He turned this melancholy heroin song into an amazingly fierce rock song:

Sepultura doing Exodus' "Pirahna" justice. it's way faster and more abrasive, and kicks so much more rear end.
