Quick rules question: I have the Defensas Sociales, which causes a regime change when 'first played'. If the card were to come back to my hand (say, if the thing it was extorting got nationalized somehow), would it cause another regime change when it comes back out?

There are very few cases (Zapata?) when a card goes to your hand. For example, if the enterprise you are extorting is nationalised you can either discard the troop or turn your Hacendado to his white side (if he has one), pay the deployment cost and assign them as his personal army. Because Mr. Carranza doesn't have a White (Command) side, you'd be forced to discard them.

But in case it ever goes to your hand, yeah. Next time you play it it causes the regime change again.

Or at least that's how I understand it. Rulebook :argh:

This is as good moment as any to say that, unless someone has strong feelings about it, we're not using optional rules (f.e. the rule that states that units defeated by other units of the same colour can be retreated instead of disbanded.)

Oh, you discard it! For some reason I thought it went back to your hand. I think I need another quick read over the rule book.

While other players in the political scene contacted less than respectable members of society, General Reyes travelled to Sonora in order to meet Adolfo de la Huerta, manager of San German Tannery. Carranza's latest contacts with Porfirio's advisers, specially the 'Cientificos', seemed to bear fruit, as he quickly gained control of several economic interests in Sonora. In the news!

A heavy blow was dealt to the budding enterprise Lewis&Company Mine, when the Black Jack gang broke into the facilities and stole the payment chest, killing two guards and wounding three others during the daring raid. Miners have rioted and the mine has stopped production.

American investors, spearheaded by local politician Venustiano Carranza, are demanding reparations and increased security at both sides of the border in order to guarantee the continued operation of the mine. Some of the shareholders are going as far as accusing other businessmen of financing the robbers in order to eliminate competitors from the market.

In other, completely unrelated news, the Twin Buttes Mine has begun operations, and the US Congress has refused to abandon the Gold Standard. It seems that for some miners the future is still golden.

Francisco Madero continues to expand his interest in Chihuahua, this time acquiring a majority share in Hacienda Santa Gertrudis. This Henequen plantation is one of the biggest in the region, employing 80 peones and their families. Madero expects that the growing demand of mooring rope, heavily dependant on Henequen fibres, will increase the profits of the industry, as well as improve the quality of life of the workers in the surrounding area.
