You can hold shift and press 2-3-4-5 to select multiple squadrons and command them as a pair. If I'm not specifically doing a split attack I usually group my torp bombers and use them as a single unit.

I did not have a single game tonight in either my Independence or Saipan where I was not overmatched either in quantity or tier. My first game was Ind v Indx2, second game Ind v Ind+Sai, third game Ind v Ranger+Saipan... However the other carrier drivers were all bloody idiots and allowed me to outmanuever their squadrons or bait them into getting slaughtered by friendly AAA. I'm getting better at manual drops, and there's no feeling like nailing an unsuspecting cruiser or DD, but goddamn if Fusos don't just fukin' eat a ton of torps.

You can also drag and drop. hth

For my money, the best strategy is to send in your first torpedo squadron solo. Score a few hits, get some flooding. Wait a few seconds, then send in your dive bombers. He'll probably have already popped his repairs as soon as you flooded him the first time, so now he's going to burn for a while. Now send in your second torpedo squadron. If you can score multiple torpedo hits, 2 fires, and two floods, you'll probably do enough damage to sink most ships. And if not, you've still ruined his day because he's stuck slowly bleeding to death while traveling at half-speed.

This works especially well against enemy CVs, if you can surprise them. US carriers are such hard targets that most don't even bother, which means the occasional surprise attack has a good chance of actually surprising them.

I need to break myself of a bad battleship habit.

My stupid brain thinks "HEY!! You have a battleship! Big guns, lots of health and armor and sweet sweet secondaries. Wade into the fray and destroy!"

What actually happens is I manage to sink 1 or 2 guys while the other 5 people I've wandered into the midst of shoot/torpedo me into oblivion. Seriously, what's the point of having bad-rear end secondaries if you cant use them?

I must be doing it wrong, because every time I try a manual drop with a two squadron pattern most of the torpedoes miss the target because the ship changed what it was doing while i switched between the planes

What I'm doing in my carrier with some success is using bomber groups in pairs, maybe 5 - 10 seconds apart on the drop, the first dropping a normal broadside of torps the second a more head on spread so if they try to turn away (or into depending on what I think is more likely) it gets them with that. that seems to be netting me a decent number of hits.

I finally got out of my Clemson after a game killing 2 Aircraft carriers and a Battleship, I did not enjoy that ship at all. Well that's a lie, it was really fun I blew up a lot of boats but just didn't ever win games in it.

I'm looking forward to the British tree, especially the Nelson Class Battleships and Admiral Class Battlecruisers.

1. Get the Secondary Battery Modification 2 upgrade
2. Get the Rudder Modification 2 upgrade
3. Get Advanced Firing Training on your captain
4. Don't spend the match sniping. Get stuck in and brawl people to death using your armor, fast rudder and the murderous short-range firepower of the 16-inchers and secondaries. :black101:

With the 130mm from the Gremyashchiy, are you better of shoting AP or HE at destroyers ? I finaly unlocked the turret turn speed upgrade and captain turn speed skill and can actualy use the guns now.
It seems I can get some nice hits on big ships with AP but on destroyers I deal ridiculous damages.

Interestingly, I had the oddest luck with an auto-torpedo drop last night; and/or the dumbest DD driver ever. Was trying to desperately maneuver, both to avoid some dropped torpedoes(mostly successful) as well as get out of LoS of multiple enemy BBs ahead(failed) while also managing my squadrons, so I was flipping back and forth between hotkeys. Accidentally pressed Shift while I had a torpedo squadron selected, which screwed up my whole viewpoint and I was stressing a bit trying to get out of it and back into overhead view. Finally did and was trying to give reorient and give attack orders to that squadron as well as get my second torpedo squadron in the air, when I noticed my previous one was empty.

I had apparently accidentally given attack orders on the DD for my active torpedo bomber squadron, and I never noticed - until I suddenly got the "Torpedo Hit" and "Ship Sunk" notifications. Of course we still lost because I was the last one alive because the team had completely folded and I was well within firing range of multiple ships, but that was still amusing.

The only BB in which I wouldn't want to get closer right now is the Yamato and that's solely because of her bugged armor and turrets and the fact that she can murder stuff from farther out pretty darn well. Once she's getting her armor fixed in 0.3.1m I'll be taking that girl into the charge and may god have mercy on the poor bastards on the receiving end of that. :black101:

For obvious reasons I love these guys when I play as CV.

Unfortunately this works both ways and yesterday I lost a 19 torp/5 bomb hits game thanks to the 2 BB (one of them a Yamato)on my team being scared of 3 lower tier cruisers and refusing to advance.

203 in a Yamato, and no CV on the other side, how is this possible

How do you check the range of your secondaries?

Also the Kitakami. About 3/4 of the games you play you will die terribly, but oh boy, goes that last 1/4 make up for it. Just watching ships go into panic mode as 20 torps suddenly appear all over the map is amazing.

Especially if you then get chance to haul a 180 and unload all the other side...

Torpedos in chokepoints in general can yield hilarious results.

Had a Fubuki game on Arctic starting west where I sprinted to the entrance of sort towards the C cap on the enemy side after their cruisers lemming-trained into the middle or to D. Just in time for all four BBs on their team to have slowly wandered up the map and all travel through the chokepoint. Nine torps went in, only one hit. And the resulting mass panic trainwreck was glorious. One guy swarved out and was ttravelling the long way around for the enxt three mintues, two ran into icebergs and the last one evaded the chokepoint towards the middle, which left him alone in range of the entire battleline on my team.

Never let other players try and dictate where you go while playing a carrier. Most of them don't know any better and have never even played one. In the same match, someone will be bitching that you're not hanging far back enough, while someone else will bitch that you need to be closer.

Go where you think you need to be. While they're busy trying to snipe from the max range their BB allows, you are the one watching the whole map and seeing the big picture. If you think you'll be safe behind an island closer to the action, then go there.

You turn slightly faster than a fuso, with the same sized turning circle and any attempt to get close can and will end with you getting blown to bits as everyone is using the aiming mod. The Nagato's secondary armament is broadly comparable to the Fuso's while it's lacking the two extra turrets for those all important citadel hits and finally, declaring a ship "good" only when you can get a lvl 4 skill on it seems silly at best.

Basically? Those tactics work just as well for the Fuso as they do the Nagato while the Fuso has better long range firepower, more chance of killing things close in and far more generous match making.

"Stand back, Ottawan ruffian, or face my lumens!"
I do sort of wish that instead of a health bar and repair button, your ship had a 'crew health' meter and a structural integrity bar. If either hits zero, the ship's 'dead,' just like WoT with hull death and crew death.

The higher the crew meter, the faster things are repaired, fires are put out, shells are reloaded, shots are fired, etc. Conversely, the lower it is, the less effective the ship is at pumping out DPS. It'd certainly make flooding and fires more harrowing.

Tie the crews in with the captain, and add a 'veterancy' rating to them that'll make them stack with the captain's skills and be more resilient.

The Steering Gear mod is pretty much the best choice on any BB anyway, no matter what you wanna do. Torpedos and skycancer alone already account for that.

Basically? Those tactics work just as well for the Fuso as they do the Nagato while the Fuso has better long range firepower, more chance of killing things close in and far more generous match making.

Nagato's got the flat-out fastest rudder shift of the entire line (except for Kawachi of all things) with the hull upgrade. And her armoring scheme combined with proper angling make her eat incoming fire and not give a gently caress. Her secondaries are absolutely *not* comparable with Fuso between the extra stock range and the additional 5.5-inchers and their placement. Even before any upgrades, she can hammer out as much secondary fire into her forward 45° angle as the entire broadside of the Fuso and at logner range. And the upgrades are percentage-based, so using them on both ships only *widens* the gap. Advanced Firing Training is not what makes the Nagato a good brawler, it's what turns her from an already beastly brawler into a loving monster that is a living nightmare for destroyers and eats cruisers with the secondary battery alone. And by the time you've been grinding a captain through the ships before her, you should be about to have 10 skillpoints on him anyway and AFT is the go-to choice at tier 4 for BB captain skills in general.

And no, those tactics do not work nearly as well for the Fuso. She turns considerably worse, she takes hits worse, she has a substantially weaker secondary battery (which in combination with the bad turning makes her a torp magnet), the 14-inchers even with more barrels tend to not punch as hard at short range and she cannot properly mask and unmaks her guns between reloads on the approach without either not using half her turrets or showing enough of a side aspect to invite citadel hits each time she tries using all 12 guns. In a direct brawl against a Nagato, she will either eat citadel hits while the Nagato doesn't or fight with 6 14-inchers against 8 16-inchers and a stronger and longer-ranged secondary battery on top of being less capable of tanking non-citadel hits. And she can't even run away because the Nagato is both faster and more maneuverable.
