Seriously. I actually really liked the episode as a whole, but what the gently caress was with that square peg of a cameo. It was like something from decades ago.

The forced musical cameo aside, I thought it was cute. They really got the feel of horrible SNL skits down right, and I loved all the names for the past skits/characters (is it wrong that I want to see Lucha Libre Brunch Buffet?).

Really excited for the finale what with the flashback to Castle as a kid and the guest appearance by the guy from V for Vendetta.

I loved every scene with model cop and righter, the arrest especially was great. Rest of the episode was kinda meh, the musical number was weird and the Martha's plotline seemed kinda out of place.

I still want to peg down when this show went from "Castle has goofy ideas with a hint of truth, but is brought back to reality" to "Castle has goofy ideas with a hint of truth but the truth is twice as batshit and random."

If Beckett's actress pulls out, I absolutely would be shockingly OK with them retconing the last few seasons as Castle's books.

Yeah, Becket got sniped, Castle breaks down and everything since has been a fevered book fantasy.

I'd have to go look at episode synopsises (synopsii?) but I don't think any of the really crazy stuff happened before that.

Calling it now: She makes like 3-4 appearances over the whole season, being out "campaigning" if she decides to leave the show.

If she stays, they get a new precinct set and she becomes a Captain there, but has less involvement with the show: i.e. "I can't go out on cases anymore so I'm having to send Castle with someone else today."

If she signs back on for full every episode appearances, she rejects both options and the status quo remains.

I thought Castle was writing because his dad gave him a copy of Casino Royale.

Hijinks Ensue

He wanted to write because of Casino Royale, but wanted to write mysteries specifically because of creepy poo poo in the woods.

That was nice. You could tell that they weren't sure about renewal when they made the episode, and didn't leave us all with a never-to-be-resolved cliffhanger.

She'd be stupid to leave the show. Realtalk: Stana Katic isn't pretty enough or talented enough to be a big star, and, even if she were, her best years are behind her. Girl needs to take the payday so she doesn't spend the rest of her life playing second fiddle to Cybil Shepard on the Lifetime movie of the week.

While I prefer it when shows know when a series finale is a series finale and craft it accordingly, I'd be okay if this were it. I'd be a thousand times more okay with ending it now than doing a season where Beckett is campaigning and conveniently just left to do some of that so she's not in this scene.

To be fair, I completely agree.

Like, seriously, Beckett could have died at any point in the series and oddly enough, it'd probably be less of a loss than any other member of the cast, from a viewer perspective. I'm probably in the minority on that but her character has been on the drift for a long time.

I just hope that if Stana Katic does decide to leave the show, it's for something that's actually good. I don't want a repeat of Psych's last season where you have a main character largely written out only for it to turn out the thing they left for flopped almost immediately.

Castle is retaining its Queen.
Stana Katic has inked a new deal to continue playing Kate Beckett through the just-ordered Season 8. The actress’ on-screen hubby, Nathan Fillion, inked his own deal last month that carries him through next season.

News of Katic’s new pact comes as the aging ABC procedural is undergoing a major shift behind-the-scenes. As TVLine reported, Castle scribes Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley are taking over as co-showrunners, replacing David Amann, who is not returning for Season 8.

Also the President of ABC confirmed next year will NOT be the final season.
