To me, it just feels like crowning Violet could lead her into confirming for herself every move that she had made was the correct decision rather than reflecting on how she was received in the front half of the season and how she can continue to better herself.

But I never warmed up to her, so I haven't been following Violet's social media stuff. Maybe she's changed for the better, but I wouldn't be surprised if she got a whole lot worse.

Yeah, I definitely don't see this happening. One interview asked what the best advice Ru gave was and she said something about Ru telling her to look at how you say things and how they're perceived. So she definitely put some thought into it. I think Violet will continue doing what she does but also growing. She seems self aware enough to know she has growing to do.

Are they not going to do a reunion show this season? It seems like they did all of that stuff during the finale... and that's sad, because having a whole episode dedicated to just having all the queens forced to sit there and talk to each other was delightfully shady.

They haven't done that since season 3.

I miss it too. These pretaped "live" finales aren't very good.

Evah Destruction is a force of nature, every performance she does is just phenomenal. Her "We Both Reached For The Gun" is great, and this is a better version of That Laughing Track. Kim Chi is auditioning, and as far as I know, Evah has been auditioning too.

I got to go to The Other Show these past two Fridays and Evah was wonderful both times. The second time I talked to her for a bit and she said she was working that night so she could get money for the dealer room at MomoCon and that was :3: as hell. She's also just kind of a cool person and she's got such great energy and amazing talent and she deserves a chance to compete. GO EVAH GO.

I also got to be in Atlanta during the crowning and Edie Cheezburger (the owner/creator of The Other Show) was hosting a viewing party for the finale, and Violet's win nearly tore the house down. It was amazing.

I am beyond jealous - Evah looks like she'd be a fantastic show, she's got great energy - and her spoken word stuff (Mommie Dearest, especially) gives me huge Lypsinka vibes.

My one big issue is that if she gets on the show - I don't think they are going to crown two girls in a row from the same bar! So, let's hope for a Season 9 Evah Destruction and not a Season 8 Evah Destruction.

Season 8 I'd like to see Kim Chi, and Bob the Drag Queen. Bob is one of the few who can share a stage with Bianca and hold her own, and I think after Season 7 we could use a bit of that. Hopefully the new producer team listens to the internet just a little and figures out what made the earlier seasons shine.

FINALLY, I got to see the finale. And yay! I was all for Violet after Katya left and she won. This whole "Violet winning is going to make her an even MORE terrible person," makes me laugh because, seriously, did you not take a gander at the glamor toad all throughout Untucked? All her rude comments about younger queens and she's only 29? About how only pageant queens are worth it? And excusing shade because she's from the south and everyone's like that (which is a stupid excuse and that late in the game is bullshit)? Having GINGER win would have created a monster.

Pearl would have been okay.

I'd love Evah to be on Season 8 but I wonder if she'd avoid it because they probably won't give the crown to two Atlanta queens in a row. She did apply for Season 7 though with Violet, so it's a strong possibility!

Hi Mom!! If you had been in the top three what kind of performance would you have done for the grand finale? I just want to know what could have been.

quote:

Oh it would have been great, but very costly, and in hindsight I’m glad I didn’t make top 3 because I would not have been able to compromise on my vision. It goes like this:

I am in a large satin ball gown hanging from a ladder being pulled by a helicopter half a mile in the air over Downtown LA. The roof of the theater retracts and completely opens up as the helicopter lowers and dangles me several hundred feet above the crowd. Ru blows her whistle, and I plummet to my death in the audience (landing on Porkchop, killing her - RIP) but here’s the twist: I didn’t die (It was a stunt double, who also died - RIP) A second helicopter swoops in and there I am, crystallized, dangling from the ladder which is slowly lowered into the theater. The roof retracts and is closed as I make my way to the stage to perform as Mrs. Peacock in a live reenactment of the three endings of the movie Clue along with the surviving members of the cast. Then in yet another twist, the audience chooses which scene they like best, and that scene is crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar. In a special bonus clip on YouTube I am announced as Miss Congenitality by BDLC who has emerges as a fly, from a breast-shaped cocoon, but is swatted by Violet who then turns into a horse.

I started cackling somewhere around "Porkchop" and didn't stop for the next five minutes.

Where are they playing? Town? The Pride Festival?

The one and only drag show I've ever seen in real life was at Town, and it was Tatiana. Who I think was underrated on the show, certainly not deserving on the win, but underrated. But her live show was.... bad. The girls that came out before her put on a show. Tatiana just came out, and walked around collecting singles from the crowd while sort of lip syncing. And her look was only okay.

Disasterrific.
Watching Pageant led me to believe most of those shindigs had talent portions, but several of the things I saw were just elaborate lip syncs. So if a queen did that for their "talent," and didn't practice anything else, yeah, that leaves them kind of lacking for the sort of things that drag race asks for.

Specifically about gayness or simply featuring gay people? 'Cause the first 40 or so episodes of The Todd Glass Show are brilliant, but the actual gay content is pretty minimum to zero. Though to be fair Glass was in the closet for a solid chunk of those episodes.

This episode with (gay comedian/impressionist) James Adomian has a bunch of silly stuff in it (at one point Adomian does an impression of Andy Kindler doing an impression of James Adomian doing an impression of Andy Kindler), and an utterly insane Joan Rivers story:

Super on topic: I really enjoy The Shade of it All podcast, which is a Drag Race recap show done by a bunch of professional comedians that pretty much covers the entire LGBT spectrum, a couple straights and a cat. They've been covering season 7 in real time, and cover past seasons and drag/gay movies when the show isn't on the air.

I've been burning through Throwing Shade with Bryan Safi and Erin Gibson at lightning speed, they talk about gay and women's issues and I love them a lot. Not sure if you're looking for a non comedy podcast though.

Ugh, Michelle's opinions on juicing and mental health bugs the poo poo out of me. Mostly because Ru, as usual, has a very neutral response, but Michelle is very... stupid. And dangerous stupid too. Like, "You can totally survive on celery and green peppers in lemon juice in the morning. It just HAS to be organic. This goes under the category of "Gay Presenters who Don't Really Talk About Gay Stuff," but I've been enjoying Tom and Lorenzo's Pop Style Opinionfest

It's basically a gay couple who chat about fashion and TV shows and occasionally interview people they're obsessed with. If you like those things set in the key of "bitchy/catty", then it's for you. (It isn't a non-stop Mean Girls-fest, but that's the tone. You know the one.)

Similarly, Cecil Palmer is always fun to listen to on Welcome to Night Vale, but since he's now broadcasting from The Desert Otherworld, I'm not sure what he'll be talking about these days besides the sands of the wild wastes. That can be queer, right?

Pan Dulce posted:

Another good podcast pick: The Dollop is not a gay podcast, it's a weird history podcast where a comedian tells other comedian strange news stories.
