Then when you beat EW you can play the long war!

So with the classes being changed in the new version, like assault becoming ranger, think they are going to do the pick a power each rank like the first game, or the splitting subclasses like longwar? I remember seeing how Firaxis was workign close with the longwar guys, they might have taken ideas from them.

They'd probably be touting 10 classes, not 5, if they handled the split like Long War does. I would guess every Ranger will have access to any of the Ranger perks on each level, just like Vanilla.

Speculating on what the 5th class is, I am going to say leader/officer type. a buffing class that uses rifles/shotguns. Mecs dont feel like a class they would be adding, as its something you did to a class, rather than a class you randomed into.

I'd have to guess that the last class is likely some kind of scout---the typical rogue as opposed to the white mage (specialist) black mage (grenadier) warrior (ranger) and archer (sharpshooter) I mean, they said stealth isn't going to replace combat, but I could see them having a character who could sneak up and backstab the most powerful enemy of the group to open the combat up.

Just had my first encounter with a mechtoid in Enemy Within, and it was pretty underwhelming. Picked off its sectoid buddies, set an overwatch trap with two heavies with HEAT ammo, and shot it once with a laser rifle. Did just enough damage that the heavies took it apart when it charged into their overwatches. I assume mechtoids are going to be significantly more dangerous if I can't dictate the engagement?

So IGN apparently is going to be doing more in-depth articles throughout the week to follow up on details from their initial one. Modding, multiplayer, the classes, the aliens, the missions, the new strategy overhead, lots of individual articles just to expound on these features in more detail, all this week. Sounds like it'll sate (or fuel) a lot of over-eager hype for a while. So why isn't there a new one NOW? You know what I really, really loved about the original Xcom? The interception music. I'd try to tackle even a battleship for a few seconds relatively early in the game because it'd mean that I'd get to hear that tune play. I hope we get a taste of that tune in Xcom 2.

I like that it's alternate history because the way I played XCOM at the end of the game every single continent had like 4 alien hybrid interceptors and three full teams of psionic supersoldiers soldiers with full genetic modifications, even an alien invasion fleet would have gotten hosed Up. The canon story is that someone played the game and gave up a quarter through it.

I thought mechtoids were a bit underwhelming in that they're enough of a (perceived) threat that when I saw them it was pretty much: in order to take them out, so they rarely got to do much.

You know what I would absolutely love, even if it is only cosmetic? Once you get out of stealth, and it comes to the battle, that your guys and the alien constantly fire at each other, just around them, hitting cover, ducking back into it. It's completely pointless but it would make battles feel and look like they are going on all the time, even tho it's turn based.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but gently caress it: my buddy and I want to trade a save off, back and forth, sorta like you might with DF or whatever. Are there good 'stopping points' in XCOM y'all might suggest for doing this?

I'm pretty bad at XCOMing but I found they can be pretty dangerous on Classic because of their increased health, especially if you're unlucky and get two at once (though that's not common). Unless you're already playing on Classic then just ignore me because, as I said, bad.

On the topic of music, this ain't from xcom but from the other UFO series that was pretty cool but also kinda disappointing: http://youtu.be/S_8dTqiWPHg Aftermath had cool music, really cool atmosphere but was pretty lacklustre. Aftershock was the best in the series, but none of them ever really stood up against the originals.

I don't know how they'd do it, but I really hope they find a way to make aggressive tactics viable, rather than having the optimal play style like MMO monster pulling.

I think it would be cool if they come up with an idea that isn't MECs in this iteration.

Michaellaneous posted:You quoted the wrong post. They ended up using the animation for suppression. Which is why you can suppress with things like Shotguns and poo poo if you have Training Roulette on. I doubt they'll program those animations in again if they are going for a sequel that doesn't have them by default, its a huge waste of resources for s tiny bit of immersion a fraction of the player base will ever activate. Also its really confusing and makes poo poo like suppression tough to pick out.
