i borg is cool but the callback to it in descent is p bad.

also my favorite voyager borg thing is when they first realize the borg are even there. i think its some episode where belanna and maybe tom are in a cave together and belanna is in a bad mood

It was on some planet and they found some dead borg drones or something if I'm remembering it correctly. This was one of the 5-7 cool/well done things that happened in the entire run of Voyager.

Yes. It was an episode involving a post-apocalyptic world and after the story's conclusion as they left the planet someone finds dead drones (implying that the destroyers of the world were the Borg).

Plot hole: Borg always collect their dead. That's what tipped off the crew about the Borg being weirdos in Descent. Why would there be a mummy Borg to find?

Yep, it was very, very cool because iirc it also wasn't at all a plot point to the episode until the very end, and you're like oh drat. Plus by that point the borg hadn't been made into such a goddamn joke yet so it was actually kinda chilling or whatever

E: i was just gonna google what episode it was until i realized the episode probably fuckin blows except for that sole part

I imagine they understand the concept of "diminishing returns". . . which could be a good description of watching Voyager.

Why were the borg all humans if they'd been assimilating the Delta Quadrant a zillion miles from the Federation for who knows how long? Did we ever see a borg that wasn't a white human?

I thought they were supposed to be generic humanoids. In the Star Trek universe it's hard to come up with an alien race that looks any more bland than humans already do, since we don't have foreheads that look like butts.

A scene from a video game or something says that the Borg actually are cloned humans descended from the blood sample that'd been put in Voyager 6, and that the Borg are the children of V'ger.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about or did I dream that?

The concept of being part of a hive mind is kind of scary to me, but I figure if I'm about to die anyway I may as well GET CONNECTED provided that hive mind doesn't act the way the borg does in trek. And really, if you were a giant super brain why the hell would you?

Additionally, gently caress all y'all for posting about Voyager in this thread, I just started watching it and you're spoiling it for me! <>

My guess is that they assimilated too many aggressive fucktards which skewed the hivemind into the thinking conquest was best way to spread.

EMERGENCY POWER TO PARTY
Can someone tell me why a Borg ship even has buttons? Like, you see Borg pressing buttons on their ships all the time. You'd think they'd just be replicating new parts and replacing poo poo when it breaks, or moving poo poo around when they're adapting and reconfiguring. But, pressing buttons? Why isn't that an API call?

And while I'm at it, if the Borg are so loving smart, why do they keep ignoring Starfleet officers in their midst? You'd think they'd have "adapted" to the fact that those dudes are bad news and you should assimilate them on sight.

Starfleet is changing their uniforms every other week, and Borg is unable to adapt that quickly.

Redundant back up systems in case the tertiary junction node bolloxs that connects them all gets cut off in that section.
Notice how every Borg only has one hand converted to a thingymajig. The hand is still the best thing at grasping and manipulating small things, so makes sense to have hand controls to fix or tamper with poo poo.

Also, limited episode budget.

Great.

Borg ships could have been invincible flying computer balls instead, but that would have been more boring than space cyborg zombies, which are cool and interesting in these days of late 80's and early 90's television. In the far future, only giant robots that fight in big senseless blurs with invincible humans with superpowers who crash into buildings will make much better matter for TV shows and movies, no one will complain then.
