I wouldn't hate it if they had Selyse do it instead of Stannis, but that would require the showrunners knowing how to write consistent characterization.

Stannis didn't listen to his red witch and it lost him the crown. This is 100% in his character. It's also really cool to see Selyse not be 100% brainwashed by her religion and have some humanity left in her. Overall 10/10, Stannis was never the Mannis, authoritarians are garbage, gently caress everyone who liked him.

He was a complex man who saw himself as a hero who was tormented by the sacrifices he had to make, he also loved his daughter and considered her to be the crown princess and his successor. We were all expecting him to 'break' at some point but we expected Shireen to be the catalyst for this, not a decision he makes cause Ramsay sneaks up to his camp and burns his supplies.

This is Stannis' character, unfortunately. He believes he is the Prince that was Promised. Azor Ahai drove Lightbringer through his wife's chest. For R'hllor, sacrifices have to be made to stop the Long Night. I've always looked at it as, either you buy 100% into Melisandre's prophecies or you dismiss her entirely. Jon Snow tried to play both sides and got killed. Of course this is going to make it really awkward when Brienne kills Stannis unceremoniously.

I could have gone without hearing/seeing a young girl who is kind and sweet get burned alive by her father. Seeing as how Stannis isn't actually a king, there will obviously be irony when he is now destroyed but I was kinda counting on book Stannis to actually take Winterfell and now I'm not so sure.
