EDIT: Nevermind. Missed the sell action somehow. And the fact that you haven't bought anything over $0 for the last three turns. gutterdaughter fucked around with this message at 18:08 on Jun 8, 2015 |

Gutter Owl posted:Wait, how the hell did you get to 21 gold so fast? You were at 9 at the top of the last page, and you've been buying things like the rest of us. I don't understand the math. Basically everything I was buying on the market was in the 0 slot and I sold a card last turn. e: also I played nothing in that whole page.

Well, that was quick! Game Over, Madero toadies to the USA Government and convinces them that having another state would be a neat idea, don't you know? He is placed as Governor, declared saviour of Mexico and all that jazz. Thank everyone for playing! ... Ok, let's take it slow. Here's the situation before Istvun's turn: pre:Current Regime: Pax Porfiriana Mines: 2 Economy: 3 Effect: Put 1 Pretige Cube on each Loyalty Point. Topple: Diaz Retirement, Loyalty Required. Public Cards Cost 18: TeddyRoosevelt OR Public Card: Porfirian Army Cost 16: Public Card: Catholic Church (Red) OR Public Card: Catholic Church (White) Market
Words about the game This was the weirdest game I've ever seen of Pax. From what I've learnt, Speculation should be used to claim some card you want to buy, not as a way of making money. Most of the cards were bought for 0-1 gold, and for that return you're better buying and selling a card during Pax. frankenfreak last turn was baffling . Earlier turns had 5-6 speculation cubes in the market, and it was amazing to watch. There was also very few cards played. Normally it's more of a free for all of Orange and Black cards, not only to shut down opponents but also to give them a leg up in a Prestige race. For example, throwing Orange cards at each other would have made Istvun's strategy way harder, and I was surprised to see you guys didn't try to equalize after he played an Outrage card against himself. I wonder if it would have been better to put the amount of money each player had on the "table", I feel text is too easy to gloss over (see GO not noticing that Istvun was amassing a small fortune) What do you think? Did you enjoy it? Anything that could have been done better?

I definitely feel it would play smoother in real time, with the downtime it was easy to lose track of what's going on. It seems cool and interesting but I'm really not sure how you'd introduce it to people.

I think a lot of the reason for this game not having as much of that is because so many troops popped up early. Basically everything was likely to get extorted fast enough that it'd have a good shot of not being worth the cash. And it was about when I got my hands on the first strikers that I made my plan to win with teddy on the first topple. At least for a while there, not enough outrage was out to stop me anyways if I declared, because I was Very Aware that I had the advantage of being the only hacendado with outrage. I'd wanted to prioritize picking outrage up early so nobody else could, but because of how expensive teddy was I knew that I couldn't afford to so I just constantly snapped up the orange cards at the bottom of the market.

Yeah, the game varies a lot depending on which cards appear on the market. There are 200-ish, and while a lot of them are functionally the same, having a dry run of enterprises or troops can shape the game.StashAugustine posted:I definitely feel it would play smoother in real time, with the downtime it was easy to lose track of what's going on. Yeah "Munchkin but with communist Mexican cowboys" is a good elevator pitch but the rules are such a mess of chrome that I don't know how well you could explain it verbally. e: the clusterfuck that is the card art doesn't help

Money on the table would have been super helpful, because I mostly relied on the image to plan my turns. Serves me right for tunnel vision.

frankenfreak posted:I agree with Gutter Owl that the slow pace of PbP makes it hard keeping everything in mind. Money on the table would probably be nice, although I'm someone who relied more on the text in this game. Adding the cube reserve would probably also be useful. Starting the second game was probably a mistake. I could go through a turn in 15 minutes or so, but doing both games meant I was not going to do a second turn in either even if the player posted his move fast. I'm no Stelas I'll probably give it another shot when game 1 is over, hopefully can go faster. Anyway, thanks for playing, guys!
