Actually I think it's funny people hate Brienne's chapters so much given that despite the pointlessness of her quest her chapters are pretty much the only ones decently paced in that stuff actually happens in them quite frequently and she has a couple of big fighting scenes and there's a rather dramatic and interesting conclusion, even if it's a cliff hanger.

The pointlessness of her quest is the buzzkill for me. We know she isn't going to find Sansa. If GURM had laid things out differently we get some dramatic tension.

Yeah, aside from Iron Island stuff, maybe some Bran stuff, and Sam goes to the Citadel, I think we're in all new territory next season. I'm not sure if we're going to get any resolution with the riverlands (and see how the Tully's are holding out), and the Lord Manderly / Frey stuff was probably completely cut. Still not completely sure about Stoneheart / Brotherhood without Banners. They may bring them back. Gendry may also come back. And they may also do something with Septon Meribald and the Quiet Isles. I also heard they cast Randyll Tarly so some of the Maidenpool plot may resurface. No clue what they're going to do with Rickon's plot next season, if anything at all.

If you recut AFFC and ADWD so you read the Brienne chapters before Sansa, you'd have a solid narrative.

Otherwise Brienne's chapters are a really good ground-level look at how loving devastating that pointless war was.

Which brings up the central point one must look at when dealing with GRRM's books.

I certainly believe this as well and yet...if he was producing a book like these every year or two and the plot/narrative was progressing I would take however many digressions because the man can build a world full of characters you want to hear more about.

I really liked the Brienne chapters. The fact that the only truly heroic knight in Westeros is wandering around on a totally pointless quest to save someone she'll never reach is humorous to me.

There's something to be said about bad threaders finding a story less enjoyable cause the author himself spoils a plot element.

Yeah those images are so hilariously biased.

Which makes them worthless, but hilarious.

Knuc U Kinte

That image is right. the dog rape is one line where she's like "I'll do anything...even with the dog" which suggests he's threatened her with it rather than actually done it. If it was the show it would be a full on scene of her being hosed by a dog off screen while Theon grimaces in horror.

The real awfulness of her chapters can only be experienced through the audio books. Listening to Roy Dotrice butcher a female voice and then pronounce her name wrong about a hundred times, each one a variation of the name is like nails on the chalkboard.

I was a huge fan of Brienne too. I was excited as hell to read her chapters because I felt she'd be a huge part of the books but after her sections I felt so let down and exhausted from her POV. Had it been a little shorter and less world building I would have been definitely more into it. It felt like such a speed bump in the story.

I really liked Brienne's chapters. I remember how powerful it was when she killed those merc guys and heavily implies it;s the first people she's killed. In the show she's like some crazed beast and kills like 5 rainbow guard guys in her first episode. I like the show, but it;s about as subtle as a hammer to the nuts.

Same. Her loving Monty Python wedding scene at the Inn was hilariously bad. Like a petulant child throwing a tantrum after being told they can't have any more fruit snacks.
