If he's not on the podium at a GT in the next couple of years then I'll agree that it's time to look elsewhere but he's doing well.

People can take a picture of a bird half a kilometer away and have it look like it's right in front of them, why not the finish line from 20-30m or a raised platform off to the side?

I'm not a photographer but at this point women's pro cycling is barely (or maybe not even) commercially viable and they need all the exposure they can get. Photographers are in the same spot for mens races too.
